Speed World Challenge St. Petersburg races debut Sunday, April 10

TOPEKA, Kan. -- SPEED Channel will air last Sunday’s SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car and GT races from the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, FL, USA, Sunday, April 10 at 1 and 2 p.m. (EDT), respectively.
In SPEED Touring Car, which will also re-air Wednesday, April 13 at noon, Peter Cunningham looks to start the season off with back-to-back wins in his A-SPEC/RealTime Racing Acura TSX. As if the competition weren’t tough enough, he’ll have to deal with the added 75lbs of REWARDS weight for his success at the season-opening round at Sebring.
Two drivers who won’t have added weight, owing to mechanical-related disappointments at Sebring, are teammate Pierre Kleinubing and Tri-Point Motorsports’ Randy Pobst in his Mazda 6. Both drivers led at Sebring, but didn’t finish at the sharp end of the results.
In SPEED GT (which re-airs following Touring Cars on April 13), can defending series Champion Tommy Archer double his win total from 2004 by taking a second-straight to start the season? Archer will also carry an additional 75lbs on his c3controls/3R-Racing Dodge Viper, and if that wasn’t enough trouble, street circuits have always been friendly to Porsches and the likes of Robin Liddell and Wolf Henzler.
In addition to the Porsche threat, General Motors is ready to break back into victory circle with one of its marques—either the black Cadillac CTS-Vs of Max Papis and Andy Pilgrim or the black Corvettes of Lou Gigliotti and Leighton Reese.
