Rolex: Pontiac Dominates Barber Motorsports Park

Alex Gurney held off Scott Pruett in a 20-minute sprint to win Sunday's Porsche 250 presented by Legacy Credit Union, tying the Daytona Prototype point standings with only four races remaining in the 2009 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 season.

In Acxiom GT competition, Andrew Davis and Robin Liddell scored their second victory of the season in the No. 57 BryanMark Financial/Stevenson Automotive Pontiac GXP.R.

Gurney won the team's series-leading third race of the season in the No. 99 GAINSCO Pontiac Riley, started by polesitter Jon Fogarty. Gurney won by .759 seconds over Scott Pruett, who took over from Memo Rojas in the No. 01 TELMEX Lexus Riley. It was the sixth time in eight races the margin of victory was less than one second.

I hope Chevy takes over from Pontiac but I fear the GM sportscar effort is doomed.

Bah, it doesn't matter at this point. GM has tunnel vision right now and Pontiac and it's recent accolades don't seem to be part of it. But good for them anyway.

Maybe Chevy can race the Camaro. Or maybe even the Cruze.

Pontiac. Pontiac. Wasn't there a car by that name at one time?
It doesn't matter; it's all Chevy now.
    Cheers.

its good for pontiac to go out in a blaze of glory in the motorsports world, the past few weeks the 2 GT pontiac teams left have struggled after pontiac pulled funding/developement during the season. yesterday was a great day for pontiac with both class wins and a third place in gt. theres rumors that stevenson motorsports are developing a camaro for next year

but while pontiac is still around, they will continue to tear up the track in Grand Am Rolex/Formula D/NHRA

I've been a Gran-Am fan since discovering the series about 5 years ago. It's a great series with awesome drivers, well matched cars, and they cater to their fans.

Pontiac was a perfect fit but I hope Chevy or Cadillac at least, picks up engine sponsorship for the DP class.

It'd be nice to see Pontiac go out with a last hurrah in racing. Once they're gone, so am I.
