NASCAR: Stewart-Haas Switches to Ford for 2017

NASCAR: Stewart-Haas makes surprise Ford switch
    RACER.com

In a surprise announcement Wednesday, Stewart-Haas Racing revealed it will switch from Chevrolet to Ford from the 2017 NASCAR Sprint Cup season.
Kurt Busch, Stewart-Haas Chevrolet, Daytona 2016The outfit has run Chevrolets since it was established as Haas CNC Racing in 2003 by new Formula 1 team owner Gene Haas. Tony Stewart bought into the team in 2009 when he joined as a driver, and SHR currently also fields Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch (LEFT) and Danica Patrick.
Stewart will be replaced by Clint Bowyer when he retires at the end of this season, with that change to coincide with a switch to Fords in what is described as a multi-year agreement.

So they order Ford stickers instead of Chevrolet stickers.

I still just can't get into racing, especially NASCAR. I am sure it would help if most of their fans weren't redneck slobs when I see them in public.

I used to love NASCAR when you could tell the difference between a Chevrolet and Ford. The early 1980's were probably the last period of time when the car was as much of a factor as the driver.

    1972 Chevrolet Corvette (350 LT-1)
2001 Chevrolet Tahoe LS (5.3 liter)
    1983 Chevrolet C/10 Silverado (350 Goodwrench)

    Former: 1989 GMC Suburban R1500 (5.7 liter)
1969 Buick Skylark Custom (Buick 350/2)
    1971 Buick Riviera (Buick 455)
    1971 Buick Electra 225 (Buick 455)

Without Buick, GM never would have existed.

Doesn't matter since they have zero relationship to production cars except look alike exterior cosmetics. Don't know that "race on Sunday, sell on Monday" means much anymore since most race fans know the cars are a custom built engine in front of a cage with a wrapper around it. All that's lost is bragging rights if you are a die hard Chevy fan. Sure would like to see Danica have a top ten finish this year. I give her props for fearlessly mixing it up with the big boys. Had a rough ride near the finish at Daytona Sunday.

A huge surprise to me. As long as Chevrolet has Hendrick and Childress they should be o.k. I agree that NASCAR is pretty irrelevant today.

I hope this helps RCR get back up front for Chevy. They've struggled for years, especially after Harvick left.

Foreign nameplate 60 years ago, yes. One of only two of the cars raced on Sunday where their respective production counterpart is actually made in the United States? Hint: the other isn't a Chevrolet.

I don't like the move that SHR made in leaving Chevrolet, but in the end, it is a business and they feel that this is best for them moving forward. Maybe they feel they can get more support and be top-dog at Ford versus always playing second fiddle to Hendrick Motorsports.

Also, GM and Chevrolet need to get their racing program together as one team. Now, Chevrolet has lost 5 top Sprint Cup teams in as many months. That leaves HMS, RCR and CGR and their top teams with a few satellite teams. Toyota is stacked with JGR and Furniture Row, while Ford has steadily built things up by adding Penske and now SHR.

The engines are still surprisingly unique, and pretty impressive to be honest. Other than that.......

Being a Harvick fan, I'm not sure how I'll feel seeing the 4 car on the track. I will say that I probably won't give a crap if the 10, 14 and 41 finish in the last three positions each race from here on out, though. Team Chevrolet will still be my top teams as long as they are out there with respectable teams and owners. Always liked RCR since the Earnhardt days, but it was tough when Dale Jr went to Hendrick in '08.

Go check it out NASCAR had Jaguar's running it in the early 1950's. So Toyota running in the series really is not a new concept.

They should be like the original Trans AM racers. if you don't offer the engine in a production vehicle you can't race in the sprint cup. There would be only one type of vehicle in sprint cup..

Re: NASCAR: Stewart-Haas Switches to Ford for 2017

I'd like to find out Chevrolet's plan's post 2017. We all know the SS is dead, so what's going to take it's place? The Impala again or the Malibu? Both will be a few years old when it's time to reveal the new race car, unless it coincides with an Impala refresh. Even though win on Sunday sell on Monday is no longer relevant, it's free advertisement. Having said that, GM dropped the ball with the SS project. It's priced way too high and maybe 5% of the general population know's it exists. Yet Toyota continues to pump more money into the sport than any other manufacturer, despite not even producing a V8 car. Yes the car's hardly resemble what you can buy in the showroom (actually, the body lines and contours are incredibly accurate and unique if you see them in person) but it's still a huge marketing opportunity. Especially for someone who has dominated the sport for so long like Chevy. Wanna know why? There are still a ton of 2001-05 Monte Carlo SS's on the road today decked out in Earnhardt/Dale Jr/Gordon/Stewart special editions.

I guess SHR feels like they would enjoy being second fiddle at Ford behind Penske more. Gotta admit Penske is stout, even more than Roush used to be back in the '90's. Penske was good with Dodge & has gotten better with Ford.
