John Force Returns to his Chevrolet Roots

YORBA LINDA, Calif. – John Force Racing, Inc. and Chevrolet announced today they will join forces to back the 18-time NHRA Funny Car championship team starting with the 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.

The multi-year agreement will see all three John Force Racing Chevrolet Camaro Funny Cars adorned with the iconic gold bowtie as well as the JFR Top Fuel dragster.

“John Force is a champion and a legend both on and off the track, as a driver and as a team owner,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet vice president for Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “John Force is a racer’s racer and a fierce competitor, and we are excited to welcome John and his team back to Chevrolet.”

The first 60 starts of John Force’s illustrious career were behind the wheel of a Chevrolet product. From 1978-80 he raced a Corvette before switching to a Citation (1981-82), Camaro (1983-84), Corvette (1985), and then a Cavalier (1986). Force won the 1994 NHRA Funny Car championship racing a Chevy Lumina to a 50-8 record, 11 finals, 10 wins, and 12 No. 1 qualifiers.

“It is great to be back with Chevrolet,” said Force, CEO John Force Racing and 16-time Funny Car champion.

I know Ford was pulling out of some racing things but guess I wasn't aware that NHRA was one of them. Cool to see him in a "Chevy".

Bummer we lost the first thread on this. Force will always be an Oldsmobile man to me.

Hey guys all he is doing is switch a little body style and using the same chassis and Hemi engines( a Chrysler variation), that they all use, including for the Toyota's. I remember when the car were real Chevy,Fords and Dodge .

Not a huge NHRA fan, but it'll be cool to see him wearing a bowtie.

We're all aware the body is the only thing that changes. Expecting these cars to be based on a stock chassis with 10,000HP engines going 300+mph would be certain suicide. For those of us who love NHRA drag racing, we are excited to see John Force running with GM sponsorship again. As far as Chrysler Hemi design, of course there are similarities, but nowadays, the blocks and heads are milled out of billet alum and nothing from what I know is switchable between a Chrysler 426 Hemi and the current 500ci hemi engines in top fuel.

Valid point for sure (racing isn't what it used to be in terms of the acutal cars being raced) but thats quite a bit of exposure for Camaro and Chevrolet to have an 18 time champ running a "Chevrolet".

The only thing Chevrolet here are the dollars. Not much reason to get excited.
