Jimmie Johnson Rolls To 5th Championship

Jimmie Johnson, responding with a solid performance while those challenging him for the Sprint Cup championship wrestled with costly mistakes, finished second in the Ford 400 Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway and won a record fifth straight title.

Johnson, who followed Carl Edwards to the race finish line, became only the third driver since 1975 to come from behind in the season’s final race to win the championship. Denny Hamlin, who led by 15 points entering the race, ran into a snake’s pit of problems on the final day of the NASCAR season and fell from first to second in points.

I really wanted Harvick to win his first but another win for Chevy is just as sweet.

The cars are all the same only the name changes. Chevy has almost nothing to do with it.

Actually Chevrolet pours millions into testing and engine development. To say Chevy has "nothing to do with it" is pure ignorance.

The engines are unique to each manufacturer. Chevy developed their own engine.

    That was an ignorant statement.

Re: Jimmie Johnson Rolls To 5th Championship

I miss the days when Nascar was fun, like the 80's and 90's. The same sheetmetal that was in the dealership, not a bunch if IROC cars with different stickers. And the 'Chase' sucks...what kind of playoff doesn't eliminate teams at each round?

Funny, I used to really like it, don't even remember to turn it on anymore (which my wife is thankful for)

Not even close to a sellout at Homestead..........no matter what was published. I could have gone for free with corporate access and I still didn't go. 20 miles from my house. The GrandAm weekend is the only one I'll go to now that the Indycars are gone. It's a beautiful facility too.........what a waste.

Re: Jimmie Johnson Rolls To 5th Championship

I would like to how the last 5 seasons would have ended up if they kept the old scoring system.

Actually that would not be a true compairison as teams start using testing different patrs etc...when they know they have the regular season sowed up.

The Chase I could care less about, just like the top 35 cars in points are guarenteed a starting spot and the car of tomorrow was just the icing of killing it for me.

I used to buy season tickets to 8 races a year (25% of the season) now I dont even bother to turn on the TV.

EXACTLY. I wish the folks who don't like/understand/follow NASCAR would stay out of our threads and stop trying to rain on our parade.

Jeff Gordon has been "victimized" twice since the inception of the Chase, and would be one behind Petty and Earnhardt...

Take nothing away from Johnson/Knaus et al...same rules for all...

Florida economy is tough, not totally surprised.

Love Indy Car - great to see Chevy back there also.
