Cool. Now, if they were to add a Le Mans prototype to their motorsports portfolio, they would have road racing pretty well covered.

    And another

    That, my friends, excites me.

And... from someone that probably doesn't write too much about these things (there is a big interview/article, though:

The new Corvette Daytona Prototype will be powered by this. It's a five liter Chevy V8 based on the Ellis family small block, modified production aluminum blocks, Chevy LSX C and C ported cylinder heads with individual runner intake manifold. Dry sump oiling system, fuel injection, 530 peak horsepower at 7,000 rpm, 450 (indiscernible) of torque at 5500 rpms.

Absolutely hideous. Grand-AM is the clown road racing series. This is a slap in the face to the Corvette Racing team. GM would have been better off putting this money towards a Prototype team in ALMS and LeMans. Just seems like GM cheaped out to me.

It is absolutely the worst.... oh wait... they were still running Pontiacs in 2011 & in NASCAR they are using the "Impala" name plate & in NHRA there are still plenty of Pontiac GTOs going down the strip.
Talk is cheap, sometimes it is on sale.

Re: GRAND-AM: Chevrolet Unveils Corvette Daytona Prototype

Grand Am was some half assed effort thrown together by the France family (NASCAR) because they were afraid the ALMS might gain some traction. SO, they add this series to dilute the road racing fans, road racing factory support, and road racing teams by splitting them across two series just like what happened to open wheel/Indy car racing. With two series, ALMS can never grow beyond a certain point. NASCAR could give a crap about road racing and it shows.

The ALMS has my total respect and support. The LeMans Vipers and Corvettes in the GTS classes were so fast, they both won OVERALL at the 24 hours of Daytona, beating out the joke "Daytona Prototypes". The Audis that run at LeMans would DESTROY anything in Grand Am.

Sorry, but GM should have put the money towards prototype racing in the American LeMans Series with an eye toward running it at the greatest race on Earth. The 24 Hours of LeMans. When you win LeMans, people say, "Audi won LeMans!", not "Jimmy Johnson won the Daytona 500!". In the ALMS and at LeMans, the CARS are the STARS, as it should be. Go ALMS Pratt & Miller team Corvette!

Re: GRAND-AM: Chevrolet Unveils Corvette Daytona Prototype

Nascar owns Grand Am, Nascar no longer runs real stock cars, Grand Am no longer runs real sports cars. HMMMMMMM I see a pattern here. I believe Grand AM is dead to me now.
