Fourth Corvette C7.R Confirmed for Le Mans 2016

According to DailySportscar a fourth Corvette C7.R has been confirmed for competition in the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours.

Besides the two 2016-spec GTE Pro factory cars and the lone Larbre Competition 2015 spec C7.R--Team AAI will run the fourth.

Originally Team AAI was going to run a Corvette C6.R, but now it's believed that they will campaign the 2015 Le Mans winning ex factory C7.R with the C6.R serving as backup.

This is very serious, Most likely the other teams want to move from the GT2 just like they did when they got it handed to them in GT1 by Corvette.

Are the Callaway GT2 Corvettes running Le Mans this year?

I just realized that GT3 cars do not run at Le Mans, so no Callaway Corvettes.

I do think GT3 cars can and do compete in the 24 hours of Le Mans though not in full GT3 spec (up to 600BHP) and under the two GT classes. Which is similar to what the weathertech series in the US does, the GTD class is full of GT3 cars though down a ton of horsepower.

It would be great to see them run, but since they are just getting started I wouldn't expect them to do anything until next year. Le Mans is a big commitment plus you have to be invited.

Wow, this is really cool. I love the idea of private teams wanting to run Corvette! Forever now, Porsche has OWNED that market. IMO, the Corvette LeMans program has been one of GM's better marketing ventures in Europe. Even people there who bash GM LOVE the Corvette LeMans team. It is so professional, and the members have historically gone out of their way for the fans.

Audi is also working hard on their customer car program. Many R8's in Pirelli World Challenge and IMSA.

Corvettes have been run by private teams in Europe for a long time now, I believe scoring championships in the FIA GT3 and also GT1 class (not sure about the GT1 class though they use to run the 7.0L C5R and C6R).

They really want to keep the Ford GT off the podium don't they?

No....the Callaway cars are only GT3 cars. Only [email protected] can build homologated GT2 cars this year.

Re: Fourth Corvette C7.R Confirmed for Le Mans 2016

Very likely you will see Corvette C7 GT3R "all over the place" in Europe, and elsewhere in the World wherever FIA GT cars are allowed. The Callaway cars are fully homologated for Lemans , and only require an invitation. The cars were completed too late to enter this year. They will start next month in the German ADAC GT3 series.

Realize Porsche, Aston Martin, and Mclaren have been building and selling GT3 cars for years. Only this year GM has to provide papers/registration for these cars to be allowed for FIA races.
They bothered to do it for [email protected] for years in GT2 and now they did it for Callaway in GT3. It's awesome !!

So save your money, $2.5 mil is a good start [ one car only], and get an invitation.

Re: Fourth Corvette C7.R Confirmed for Le Mans 2016

I wonder if the ATS V GT3 car is on sale yet? and I wonder how many teams will buy that car lets say over the Callaway C7 GT3R. Something tells me that European teams would rather a locally built race car over one built in the US and would buy the C7 GT3R over the ATS V GT3.

If you were looking at starting a GT3 racing team which one of these two would you rather have?
