“Obviously, we’re extremely pleased to have been granted a Formula One license by the FIA. It’s an exciting time for me, Haas Automation and anyone who wanted to see an American team return to Formula One.

Haas's Windshear rolling road wind tunnel will need upgrading from it's current 185mph to 220mph plus to cope with F1 cars.

I extend best wishes to Mr. Haas. He is a very astute, bright, innovative, wealthy and demanding individual. I, however, am convinced that he has no chance of being successful in both NASCAR and F1 at the same time. Roger Penske tried F1 in the 70s and was less than successful. He never returned, instead focussing on Stock and Indy cars.

What models does he race at Nathica? Seems like he is a Chevrolet guy, think GM will pour in the cash for him to race at F1?

I do not see GM putting money to put Chevy in F1, they kind of made the choice not to waste their time in Europe. Maybe an Opel or Cadillac team I can see GM investing big bucks in F1 however I feel rally racing would be better for Opel and F1 for Cadillac.

To get to be one of the front runners a team has to have an annual budget of "several hundred million dollars". FIA is looking to mandate a budget cap in 2015. The amount hasn't been decided but the figure $50-100 millions was discussed in this article. That's a lot of money, hope he has some sponsors lined up that are willing to fund the team for many years, while they develop the experience and technology to be competitive.

I'm interested in Dallara's chassis design and how they will develop it. HRT failed miserably with their Dallara designed chassis, but word is they didn't have the dough to have Dallara develop it for them. PU, in my opinion is a no brainer with Mercedes, but they there's Honda on the horizon and rumours of BMW or Ford(Cosworth) looking the dip they toes in F1 again.

If an automotive company want to give F1 a Stab, they better develop their own in-house chassis. This is something that can be so embarrassing for a brand, they better invest their own resources in it and not outsource to some small outfit.

But small outfits can move much faster that big automotive companies - in F1, design changes have to be in production within days, not years!

They will, they only have 9 months till the start of the 2015 season, which is unfeasible for a start up F1 constructor, so they have to contract out to Dallara to make the grid for now. His goal as the article mentions is to become a full constructor.

In the 1970's we bought/applied for an FIA entry license for Sebring/Daytona races and I believe TransAm and IMSA entries at Road Atlanta and The Glen 500. It was not for the entry fee.
I have a copy at home..... it was $200 for all this plus a set of Camaro homologation papers and was issued for one full year. Talk about an increase of cost of business !!

Haas is being criticised for planning to base his team in the US instead of in England like all the other F1 teams (except Ferrari who recently moved their F1 team back to Italy from England).

England is the centre of the universe for F1, like it or lump it!

When did Ferrari, the bastion of Italian motorsports, ever run the team from England? They used the old Toyota wind tunnel in Cologne, Germany while they were upgrading theirs after correlation errors, but that was the only part of the team that wasn't based in Italy as far as I thought. Do you have any articles stating that the Scuderia was being run from England?

Also, I thought Toro Rosso was based in Faenzia, Italy as well? As part of their deal to buy out Minardi.
