Corvette Given BoP Breaks Ahead of CTMP This Weekend

IMSA has just made an unprecedented change to the Balance of Performance in the GT Le Mans category ahead of this weekends Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Because the teams are at CTMP just days after leaving Watkins Glen, the changes come down past IMSA’s self imposed seven-day deadline.

    Quote Originally Posted by IMSA

(language below) to enable a change to the IWSC CTMP Balance of Performance Tables outside the standard notification timeline listed in Attachment 2, Paragraph 2.4. of the IWSC Sporting Regulations and SSR.

“2.2.2. Principal Rule. On occasion, circumstances are presented, either unforeseen or otherwise extraordinary, in which strict application of the rules may not achieve the Purpose. In such rare circumstances, Officials, as a practical matter, may make a determination that is not contemplated by or is inconsistent with the rules. Such determinations are reviewable by the Supervisory Officials. All such determinations are Conclusive, except as provided for in the rules.”
The Corvette C7.R has been given a 0.4mm wider air restrictor, a richer air/fuel mixture and 2 liters more fuel to compensate for the lambda. Additionally the Corvettes will shed 22 pounds.

Porsche’s 911 RSR will also cut 22 lbs, the Ferrari 488 has been given an extra liter of fuel, while the BMW M6 GTE was left alone.

Conversely, the Ford GT has been hit with a 33 lb weight ballast and had boost turned down from 2000-7200 RPM. This is the third BoP change to the Ford GT, leaving it 33 pounds heavier than when it started the season.

We’ll be providing coverage of the entire weekend live from CTMP, stay tuned.

I'll be at the race this Sunday, and now i'm even more looking forward to it now that the GTLM class should be closer competition..these changes were desperately needed as the c7r was basically noncompetitive from qualifying to the end of the race at Sebring

Stuff like this is why I have a hard time getting into these races.

IMSA is totally screwed up, they should have let ALMS staff run their BOP operations.

This is exactly what I have been saying. The BOP adjustments are happening too often.

I think it's because they're making reductions and additions simultaneously. It leads to the pendulum swinging wildly past the mark each time.

I agree, they should go back to a good set of RULES! As it currently sits they are too basic.

The rules of racing are simple. If the team/brand you want to win can't, change and twist the rules until they can.

Some companies do make superior track attack cars. FYI

Basically they wanted Ford to "win" at Lemans......... a '62 Vette would be more competitive than this present version.

...which had nothing to to with the poor set up, the lead Corvette team admitted
that their track set up was not as it should have been which caused ill handling in the race.

See, BOP works both ways, the Corvettes got a correction even though their own set up
contributed to their poor result at LeMans.

Corvette didn't do well at Le Mans because of horsepower pure and simple. It wouldn't matter what kind of setup they had.
