World Premiere in Paris: Opel Returns to Sewing Machines

    Opel Media Online
    2016-04-01

    - Market with potential: Opel enters fashion business with visionary sewing machine
    - Purist concept: Stitches sculptural design and German engineering together
    - Electrifying style: The Opel GT among sewing machines
    - Debut: World premiere at the 2016 Paris Fashion Week

Rüsselsheim. Adam Opel originally founded the company with the sewing machine. The brand with the lightning flash now closes the loop to the automobile and back to the sewing machine. Following the successful world premiere of the Opel GT Concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March, Opel follows up with the second tribute to its glorious past. After “Umparken im Kopf”, diversity is the latest buzzword in Rüsselsheim, with the Hessian carmaker now moving into the fashion business – with a futuristic sewing machine.

Purist, electrifying and uncompromising. Just as with the GT Concept sports car, Opel now proves that bold, pioneering design can be affordable in the rag trade too. In order to meet high demand and attract new customers, the Opel Management Board has decided to add two sewing machines to the product portfolio.

Fashion moguls, designers and tailors will soon be able to convince themselves of Opel’s sculptural design and German engineering. Opel sewing machines have been famous since 1862 for their high quality and durability. The sewing machine that will debut at the 2016 Paris Fashion Week will put all others into the shade, and not only with its higher performance. It will also display the highest precision and the fastest maximum speed. To borrow a phrase from the famous GT: “Only sewing is better.”

Opel and Singer - two excellent makes of sewing machines and then cars - but both got taken over by American car companies!

That's a shame, because it would be badass. And it's a pretty sweet idea.

Hopefully Cadillac can use this in its 'cut and sew' interiors

Toyota will under cut it on price and it will be 10 times more reliable/profitible, Opel money pit will make huge billion dollar losses on its new sewing machines.

Me 1 would go with Toto's old stool Opel treadle built to last forever, very green, keeps you fit, bomb proof failsafe reliability no costly modern electronics to go wrong, easy to fix.

Not gonna lie, I'm seriously thinking about buying a used Honda Rebel. Only $1,500–$2,000, not the biggest and baddest but enough to have fun and the right aesthetic.

If I do and start riding, I'd get that if Opel brought it back and HERE.

My wife will be SOOO glad to hear this. She's been reading Car and Driver faithfully for decades, hoping against hope that such a blessed event would take place.
