Rüsselsheim. English car magazine Auto Express has presented its 2015 Technology Award to OnStar, the new personal connectivity and service assistant from Opel and its UK sister-brand, Vauxhall. . “It's a hi-tech revolution that promises to make owning a Vauxhall an even greater experience for thousands of drivers across the UK,” summarized Auto Express.

The extensive service offer proposed by OnStar includes 24-hour Automatic Crash Response, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Roadside Assistance, Destination Download, Vehicle Diagnostics on important operating data as well as the remote control of various vehicle functions via the Smartphone App. As of August, OnStar Advisors, based in the service center in Luton, UK, will be available 24/7, 365 days a year to handle any incoming requests or emergencies.

With the introduction of OnStar, each Opel/Vauxhall will also become a powerful, mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. Up to seven mobile devices can be connected simultaneously allowing passengers to play games, stay in touch with family and friends via social media, stream movies or watch TV. The driver can also use the hotspot for work while away from the office when the car is stationary.

The new personal connectivity and service assistant will initially be launched in 13 European markets with others to follow and the services provided by OnStar will be free of charge for the first twelve months after activation.

Curious who are the thirteen countries for initial roll out.? Full article link doesn't say. :-( Assuming that it will be rolled out in larger European countries first. Scandinavian countries due to our population will be somewhere in the future.

I have had OnStar for 18 years. It is amazing that GM has taken so long to introduce the service to Europe.

That's not correct. It's the second launch of OnStar in Europe. In 2004 GME canceled the OnStar service due low demand, iirc.
