    Spied: 2017 Opel Insignia

2017 Opel Insignia shows it sleeker shape in latest spy photos.

The 2017 Opel Insignia has returned in a new batch of spy photos.

Looking sleeker and more stylish than its predecessor, the redesigned model has an evolutionary grille which is flanked by slender headlights. Moving further back, we can see a rakish windscreen, a coupe-like roofline and a stylish rear end.

Opel has been relatively tight-lipped about the model but previous reports have suggested it will be about 10 centimeters longer than the current model and ride on an all-new platform that will enable the car to weigh up to 200 kg (441 lbs) than its predecessor.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but we can expect a variety of new and upgraded petrol and diesel units.

I'm interested in what they're doing with the rear suspension. All the prototypes endup testing like that

I'm also interested in why there are giant holes carved out in the doors.

    Portholes maybe?

It's going to be interesting to see what Buick will do with this. Also, why the cut outs and that it is riding so low in the rear and a block behind the tire? Weird.

    Theory A) Speed Holes
Theory B) Ultrasonic sensors embedded in the doors like the Model X or keyless gentry

Yeah. This thing looks SUPER dumped in the back, it looks awesome.

The keyless gentry. Gonna have to put keypads on all my doors so I can start referring to my family as "the Keyless Gentry".

    My theory... pod bay doors.

    Re: Spied: 2017 Opel Insignia

More spy photos and I'm left hoping that this Insignia is sporting the greatest camouflage job ever, as nothing about this car's shape excites me at all... And I'm one who loves the current Insignia/Regal, and have since I first saw it in person at a Saturn event back in 2008. (The current Buick Regal was supposed to be the second gen Saturn Aura, for those here who may not know)...

The vehicle's Design Director, Malcolm Ward, promises that the new Opel Insignia (aka Buick Regal) will be “one of the most beautiful cars you will have seen in years.”

I can't see it, through all of that camouflage.

MonaroSS, if you happen to see this post, would you be willing to do an informed rendering of what it will look like?

What's the other camo'ed unit behind the Insignia in the first pic? The new Envision, Zafira, Meriva?

    Thoughts?

There are no holes in the doors - just holes in the very thick padding showing the real door skin below.

    Monaro

I think even that is a smoke screen as they are very slab sided

Have a look at the top side of the door "skin" in your pic and you can see 2 distinct step outs from where the window is

This tells me the real sheetmetal is at least half an inch further inboard of what you see through those "holes"
