    Spied: 2017 Opel Insignia

Next-generation Opel Insignia spied wearing a production body.

The 2017 / 2018 Opel Insignia has been spied wearing a production body.

Designed to be one of the most stylish models in its segment, the redesigned Insignia follows in the footsteps of the Monza concept and features four-door coupe inspired styling. The camouflage hides a lot of details but we can see a wide grille that is flanked by slender headlights. Moving further back, there's a rakish windscreen and an dynamic roofline that slopes down to meet the car's stylish rear end.

Technical details remain elusive but the car is expect to be about ten centimeters longer than its predecessor. The model is also rumored to weigh up to 200 kg (441 lbs) less than the outgoing model.

Opel hasn't had much to say about the Insignia lately but rumors suggest it could debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Hood looks low. I like that.

Wait I thought we were getting the Insignia/Regal next year for 2017? Now it's for 2018? The current Insignia was new for 2009! It's getting quite old. If that's the case they basically needed to update it again for 2016.

Y'know, I was really worried when the heavily camouflaged Malibu prototypes started appearing, but the car ended up looking fantastic. I think this car will turn out the same way, sans hideous front end.

If it doesn't get a c pillar window like the Malibu, there's no chance of that.

By the looks of it, all in the overhangs...... that's 2" at each end.

I though the '14 Impala/XTS looked like a shopping trolley shoved under a minisub. Not to be outdone, Opel produced something that looks even more like a bathtub on a babycarriage.

Basically because the turbo six version and probably AWD is gone. Expect much smaller reductions on the rest of the model range.

Has a nice roofline. Needs bigger wheels, some integrated exhausts, and some more flared fenders for a better hunkered-down look. Really, this looks like a Malibu with an Opel DLO.

    What's a DLO?

I hate the roofline, I'm officially over cars that don't have a distinct hood and trunk. They all make me think of the first-gen Prius.

    Re: Spied: 2017 Opel Insignia

Someone who has no idea about Opel posted info that Insignia will have premiere at Frankfurt Motor Show 2017., and all other medias share that information.
That is incorrect. Opel never tested cars that long... it would mean they will test Insignia for over 2 years :S
Insignia will have premiere at Paris motor show 2016., or even London in May, but that is less likeley option.

This thing has fake panels on it to totally change the shape. Look at the doors (those are obvious) but the trunk lid has a plastic panel on top as well.

    Re: Spied: 2017 Opel Insignia

I am more eager to see the interior of this car. The Monza concept dash looked like one big screen across the whole width of the dash. Eager to see how that will translate in the production model.

I think it's a mistake to make this car 7 inches longer, so that it's almost the same length as the LaCrosse. I think they could have increased the wheelbase without adding to the length of the car. My G6 Coupe has a longer wheelbase than the current Regal, but is an inch shorter. So it IS possible. I also hope they keep a sedan version. Not everyone would be into such a large hatchback in the US. Either make it a crossover, or a wagon. This is neither here nor there...

I wonder if the Regal update will be a year after the Insignia update. I kinda like that they take a year as an Opel to perfect the model before upgrading it to the Buick version.

You have 2 options here on GMI:

    1. If you like the brand/car, you can't see much because of the camo.
    2. If you don't like the brand/car, it looks like ****.

    It's that easy.

Know what else has a similar roofline?
