LHD Chevrolet UK are GM’s star brand of the month with sales up a massive +100% now those appalling South Korean cars have left the British market for good, but its the sheer numbers of RHD Vauxhalls that make General Motors sales look respectable in Europe in March, LHD car sales are having another bad month in the UK can’t gain any traction as they are not mature enough brands so a little birdie tells me

When l look at Audi, BMW & Mercedes German luxury car sales numbers, the Brit’s buy more than the Germans do on their own home turf in March, hapless Cadillac are still bumbling along the bottom with close to 0 sales, with RHD Brits buying the lions share of GM & Ford cars, yet both don’t offer a luxury branded RHD car for the UK market, RHD Audi, RHD BMW & RHD Mercedes Benz eat all the luxury car market share cake, LHD Cadillac can’t steal a crumb why?

And the 2 Chevrolets sold are likely to be US embassy staff or US military personnel.

I'm confused, are we saying that RHD cars sell better than LHD in the UK?

Well, yes, but that's not the point being made here. The main point is in the first list of top 5 European countries for GM. If you took the UK sales away from the European sales, then GM would have sold around 70,000 cars in March instead of 120,000.

A couple of questions to the Europe-based members.

    2012 2013 2014 2015 2016

Is March a big month because of end of financial year ? Is that only UK or all of Europe ?

And can you buy an Opel-badged RHD vehicle or only Vauxhall ?

Don't worry. GM is studying and considering it !
How GM kills Cadillac's global image, read here:Hidden Content
I wasn't around during Cadillac's last heyday, so this is the first time I've ever written the following words: The car to beat, the best car in its class, is a Cadillac. You're done playing offense, Cadillac. I hope you can learn how to play defense.

Ahh, yes - but you can't argue against those 100% growth figures in LHD Chevrolet, it means more study is required. Maybe next year

In the UK, the 1st March sees a change in the year identifier in the registration plate - many just ignore it but enough people are vain enoungh to delay Jan/Feb purchases into March.

Ireland and Malta buy RHD Opels and a few get into the UK as grey imports but Opels are not officially sold in the UK where only RHD Vauxhalls are sold.

EU member Cyprus also is RHD, once you get outside the EU top five the numbers are piss poor, what the surge in September sales caused by Rupert?

The registrations change twice a year in the UK, 1st September and 1st March - the March change gets the last two digits of the calendar year so now "16" and the September gets the same but with 50 added, so September 2016 will be "66".

This is for dealers benefit, they feel that it helps boost trade at otherwise quiet times.

Correct. At one stage they wanted to replace Opel with Chevy, but the client profile was so different (with little cross shopping) that they kept Opel, and emphasised its German heritage. With Chevy, they emphasize nothing. It just means cheapish Korean cars. You'd never know it's an iconic American brand.

Oh and my RHD comment above was an attempt at sarcasm.

GM have not worked that out one yet, every other car maker does RHD. So l am told by a little birdie on GMI Cadillac say the European market is to mature they will never ever be able to get into it.

Good job Uncle Henry never had that Cadillac LHD fighting spirit of today, l wonder where RHD Ford UK would be in the UK sales chart today if they had only LHD cars only in March 2016 sales chart patrickbec? may be a close fight with Lincoln UK sales but winning on alphabetical order probably.

What everybody else has done is start with RHD cars, and just keep working hard chipping away at it building up market share year on year, learning from your mistakes along the way in time honour fashion. Cadillac have permantly got their head buried in the sand, whilst RHD Audi RHD BMW & RHD Mercedes Benz eating huge European luxury market cake.

Be fair! Ford has a big advantage, they started building the Model-T in RHD versions in 1909, so they have over a century start over GM
