Opel Zafira Tourer Most Environmentally Friendly Van Fourth Time in a Row

A real winner: After 2013, 2014 and 2015, now again rated number one by independent institute Ökotrend

Rüsselsheim. It’s an outstanding start to the new year for Opel: the Zafira Tourer 1.6 CNG ecoFLEX is again the most environmentally friendly van. For the fourth consecutive time, the environmental institute Ökotrend and the trade magazine Auto Test have named the natural-gas model their “Auto Test Winner in Green” in its segment. The versatile, compact seven-seater wins its class with the low-emission and ultra-economical 1.6 CNG ecoFLEX turbo engine under its hood. CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) gives particularly clean combustion in the innovative Opel four-cylinder engine.

Given the number of older Vauxhall Zafira's bursting into flames, GM might be advised not to shout environmentally-friendly too loud about this newer model.

Only Vauxhalls, not Opels. Must be a RHD thing.

Indeed, it's the fan speed control circuit board which has a design-fault and the resistors can overheat, so a one-shot thermal fuse is used to protect from fire - but these thermal fuses are frequently triggered leading to many cars needing repairs to replace the thermal fuse - when not done correctly the fuse doesn't give the necessary protection, the circuit board overheats and the car catches fire - it's an Opel design fault (Vauxhall don't do any design) compounded by poor out of warranty repairs.

It may also apply to RHD Opels sold in Ireland and Malta.
