Opel Vivaro Sport Gives Big Van A More Aggressive Look

Opel Vivaro Sport Gives Big Van A More Aggressive Look

It's hard to get excited about a van, but Opel is doing its best with the launch of the new Vivaro Sport.

The Vivaro is Opel's (and Vauxhall's) version of the same light commercial vehicle alternatively sold as the Renault Trafic, Nissan NV300 and Fiat Talento. Only Opel is sprucing up its version to give it a bit more of a sporty edge.

Set to be revealed at the IAA Commercial Vehicles expo in Hannover, Germany, the Opel Vivaro Sport features 17-inch alloys (optionally painted black) and either black or silver racing stripes running up the hood, over the roof and along the flank.

    That looks like excrement.

What is with GM and stupid graphics? Racing stripes are okay on a Camaro, not so much on a cargo van.

No, it's a work van with some stickers on it. There's nothing 'sporty' about it.

It does - the Opel/Vauxhall Vivaro is a Renault Trafic built under licence at Vauxhall, England - the only engine options are Renault units.

But I agree - GM should be designing it's own vans, for use in both Europe and North America - and then building them.

In the same way that North Americans use pickups as passenger vehicles, something very few Europeans do - there's increasing sales in Europe to those who want/need to combine a work van with a leisure vehicle.

These are good sales, don't knock it.

The problem is with Reuss and his team, They are so focused on cars and this has left GM hopelessely exposed in the Commercial sector in General. They have band aid products everywhere from FAW/Isuzu/these vans/Nissan/Navistar.. etc.. Someone needs to sit down and look at this commercial sector and come up with a global in-house strategy.

Re: Opel Vivaro Sport Gives Big Van A More Aggressive Look

Don't know why they try to make modern vans look all sleek and swoopy. It never works, and just winds up looking awkward. Let 'em be square looking - there's nothing wrong with that, and the alternative never works.

And there's no reason for a GM only van. Sure, it sounds nice to have a van of your own. But if it's not a moneymaker, why do it when Nissan's happy to supply vans with a GM badge? is the prestige of producing your own van (yeah, "prestige of producing your own van" sounds silly - which is exactly my point) really worth losing money?

Ford has actually done a pretty good job with the Transit when they've done something similar:

I like these Transit sports versions. I'm sure most don't, but I'll readily admit my taste in vehicles has always been strange.
