Opel Achieves Biggest October Market Share Since 2011

More than 19,000 new registrations keep Opel on track on German passenger car market
    Opel Media Online
    2015-11-03

Rüsselsheim. Opel has registered substantial growth in the German market in October and posted its biggest October market share since 2011 with 7.04 percent. The carmaker recorded 19,607 new passenger car registrations and achieved a significant increase of 1,163 units or 6.3 percent compared to the same month in 2014.

The increase in sales is mainly a result of high demand for Opel’s new models. Opel sold 2,712 Mokka SUVs in the past month – an increase of 21 percent year-on-year. The Mokka was the bestselling SUV on the market according to the Federal Motor Vehicle Transport Authority (KBA) scheme. The ADAM lifestyle mini recorded total sales of 1,923 units – an increase of 13 percent. The new Astra allows played its part in October with an increase of 3 percent despite de facto only having been delivered since mid-October. The ergonomics and flexibility champion Meriva registered growth of 14 percent in October and took first place in the MPV-B segment with 1,318 units.

This is always a good time of year for SUV sales - people suddenly realise they need one, similar to convertibles selling well in late spring - in the UK, SUV secondhand prices actually rise in autumn rather than the constant drop in value.

If only Opel/Vauxhall had a full range of SUVs to support Mokka.

I wonder what percentage are "conquest" from VW group? and people going to buy a DIFFERENT GERMAN marque until VWgate blows over

None - VW has a huge issue in North America, no doubt about that, but European car buyers are well aware that the difference in emissions limits and testing procedures makes it an industry-wide issue in Europe, not specific to VW

VW sales went up in the USA in October http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-34715268

It is too early to see an effect: Usually new cars are ordered in Germany. Only few are bought directly from dealers' stock. The registrations can be affected from December.

Aaaah, there's nothing like PR-spin to start the morning.
If you read these montly reports about how well Opel is doing at the moment, you could be left with the impression that all is going peachy.

However, if you look at the Europe-wide figures in 2015 (excluding october as of yet), Opel's marketshare is actually still going down.
GM as a whole: jan-sept down from 7,4% to 6,9% (mainly due to Chevrolet)
    Opel: from 7,0% to 6,9%

And I don't expect october to be really different due to the VW scandals. From the statistics I've seen so far, VW sales are unaffected. Not sur what will happen in the coming months, but for example in The Netherlands VW's marketshare in october was actually higher than in the year so far.

And in Germany, two thirds of the new cars are being bought by companies under long year contracts. These contracts almost always (I'm guessing 99,9%) will have VW or one of its brands as a main supplier. This alone will ensure healthy sales for the coming future. And the ageman car press was rallying around VW in the past weeks, so don't expect VW to be shunned or anything

How GM kills Cadillac's global image, read here:Hidden Content
I wasn't around during Cadillac's last heyday, so this is the first time I've ever written the following words: The car to beat, the best car in its class, is a Cadillac. You're done playing offense, Cadillac. I hope you can learn how to play defense.

GM doesn't have a better brand that works in Europe.

The brand "quality" is determined by the quality of the vehicles - Opel/Vauxhall hasn't had a good SUV since the Monterey, a rebadged Isuzu, and won't get another until 2020 when the Insignia-based model comes. Until then all they've got is the Mokka and a couple of rebadged PSA crossovers.

Yep. It's like the other Opel spin about receiving 30,000 (factory stock) orders for the new Astra.

The new Astra seems to be doing the trick for them.

Yes, but you should not forget to say that all other brands do it too. That's not an Opel 'thing'.

This post is for Opel German "Only" Sales. Not European Opel Group sales, just 1 country Germany.

Vauxhall sales had horrendous fall, sales dropped down by -16.39% in October in Europe with a loss of nearly 2% market share in October, good to see Opel Germany helping to offset some of the huge Opel Group sales losses in the UK.

This is not gonna be a good overall sales month for Opel Group in October.

Actually Vauxhall is very profitable, and it's been for a number of years. In fact, it's insanely profitable when compared to the rest of GME. It's the German side of the business that bleeds red ink.
