New Opel Corsa OPC for Just 24,395 Euros

True Athlete: New Opel Corsa OPC for Just 24,395 Euros
    Opel Media Online
    2015-03-03

    - Super price: Less expensive than predecessor with more power
    - Turbo power: 152 kW/207 hp and up to 280 Nm torque
    - Top speed: In 6.8 s from zero to 100, in 6.4 s from 80 to 120 km/h, up to 230 km/h

Rüsselsheim/Geneva. Powerful, fast, top performance for a great price. The new Corsa OPC makes its world premiere in Geneva with 152 kW/207 hp under its hood and extensive OPC equipment for just 24,395 euros (RRP incl. VAT in Germany; combined cycle fuel consumption 7.5 l/100 km / CO2 emissions 174 g/km). This makes the fastest member of the new Corsa generation even less expensive than its predecessor while it delivers 11 kW/15 hp higher output. Its maximum torque increases by up to 50 Nm to an uncompromising 280 Nm with overboost. The youngest OPC model will be available for order in the upcoming days and will be at dealerships in spring.

“The new Corsa OPC impressively proves how high our engineers have set the bar in the sporty small car segment. It is the fastest Corsa ever – validated on the Nürburgring. Yet our new high-performance athlete is not one cent more expensive. On the contrary, it offers even more than before: more power, more speed, more OPC feeling,” says Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales & Aftersales Opel Group, summing up the benefits for customers. “And for those who want to pack even more OPC feeling into the production version, we offer the OPC Performance Package – the ultimate in sportiness in this class.”

Performance, speed and torque galore: Newest Corsa OPC generation

The Corsa OPC is the athlete of the small car family. It makes this clear with its characteristic design featuring large air intakes, a bold, distinctive hood, prominent rear spoiler and twin-pipe Remus exhaust system. The tailpipes add further acoustic emphasis to the 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine’s performance potential. Compared to its predecessor, it boasts 15 hp higher output and up to 50 Nm higher torque, enabling impressive sprints. The new Corsa OPC accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds according to latest data – almost a half-second faster than the Corsa OPC from the previous generation. When overtaking in fifth gear, the new edition needs three-tenths of a second less, now just 6.4 seconds from 80 to 120 km/h. Maximum speed is also boosted by 5 km/h and now reaches up to 230 km/h. These figures are comparable to the existing OPC Nürburgring Edition – but for an amazing 4,000 euros less. The new Corsa OPC brings its performance to the road safely and solidly thanks to innovative Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology. Experienced drivers can even switch off the ESP completely when pushing the vehicle to its limits. Like all Opel OPC models, the new Corsa also successfully completed an extensive testing program on the most challenging race track in the world – the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The new Corsa OPC interior also creates a sporty ambience. Recaro performance seats, which offer passengers optimum side support even in the most demanding maze of corners, are prominent. The leather steering wheel, flattened at the bottom, the OPC gear knob for the short ratio six-speed gearbox and the sports pedals along with the instruments in characteristic OPC design complete the interior. In addition, even these sporty drivers do not have to forego outstanding connectivity. Opel’s IntelliLink infotainment system is available as an option and brings the world of smartphones, both Apple iOS and Android, on board the Corsa OPC.

OPC Performance Package: Ultimate racing car flair on the road

Drivers looking for even more racing flair can order the OPC Performance Package for 3,150 euros. Its highlight is a mechanical multi-disc differential lock made by Drexler that ensures even better traction in the already exemplary front-wheel drive car. It also includes 18-inch wheels with powerful grip Michelin tires, an even more athletic chassis set-up as well as a Brembo high performance braking system with 330-millimeter brake discs on the front axle that also provide optimal deceleration during extremely challenging driving such as a lap on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The Performance Package ensures that the Corsa OPC is the ultimate high-performance athlete.

Ford is bringing their fun cars from across the pond to the states, can we please get something similar to the OPC here in the states? Preferably this 1.6L Turbo in the Sonic.

Don't ask no-brainer questions of GM - they don't listen to their enthusiasts! They'd rather lose customers to Ford and then complain about it later AKA the Saturn/Opel fiasco LOL

I've been seeing a hell of a lot of Focus STs, Fiesta STs, Abarths, WRXs, MkVII GTIs and not surprisingly even more of the base models that they are based off of, in and around the Pittsburgh area.

Not a Sonic to be found. A few Cruzes. Maybe they just blend into the background.

GM doesn't seem to have any kind of plan or even anything in the works in these segments.

A cruze ss or whatever they want to call it seems like a no brainer. I can't believe the top brass strait up said they weren't doing sporty version of it.

More into RWD v8 Muscle cars myself personally, but the little Corsa OPC looks a very nice performance package will make a great Corsa halo car, it looks excellently finished inside Opel have done a top quality job of the interior.

Love the smiley face on the front end, the lucrative private buyer will reengage with the Corsa, the Fiesta looks like it is going to lose its No1 crown in Europe. Opel should do WRC with a AWD version of the Corsa l bet it could beat the VW Polo easy.

    Nice hot hatch
You can tell that GM really cared about the ATS from day one. If GM cared about all its vehicles that way they would truely be #1.

    Nice!
But why didn't they match the DS3 sport or Mini Cooper S/JCW 210plus hp for the 1.6 Turbo?

If Opel/Vauxhall are quoting bhp and Citroen/MINI quoting PS, they'll be close enough not to matter.

The old "Nürburgring Edition" making 210 PS was faster on the Hockenheim Racetrack than the Mini JCW with 211 PS. Given that the new JCW gained some weight and the Corsa is now equipped with adaptive dampers they could be on par.

Same for the DS3 on the short track at Hockenheim (Corsa: 1:18.2 / DS3: 1:19.8).

Btw, Opel was first with a 1.6T in this class. All other mainstream brands jumped on the bandwagon. Who says GM can't set a trend?

My gosh you've changed your tune about the new Corsa... "Viva will cannibalise Corsa sales" (sic), etc, etc, etc. Hmmm...

Seeing a few of the regular new Corsas about now, still amazed at how different they look to the D. Totally different stance, really more solid and VW/'semi-premium' looking, keep having to double-take. A cheaper OPC/VXR with more kit, etc sounds like a winner.
