Symboliq To Be Name Of Future Cadillac Electric Vehicle Cadillac Society
July 24, 2020
Cadillac’s parent, General Motors Company, has filed to trademark the name “Symboliq” for use on a future Cadillac electric vehicle, Cadillac Society has uncovered.
Made on July 22nd, 2020 with the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, the filing consists of two names: “Symboliq” and “Cadillac Symboliq.” Both filings list “Motorized land vehicles, namely automobiles” as the Goods and Services with which the names will be associated.
I'm hoping the plan is for GM to make a major push to fully re-enter the European market once their Chevrolet and Cadillac EVs have all hit the market.
Ouch, I think I like those old man name's like Brougham and Deville better than Symboliq, which isn't saying much. If they went with nice, fresh names like "Ciel" I'd be fine with names. "iq" isn't working for me. But, it won't change my decision to buy a vehicle if I like it.
They should name the cars like Prince and just give them symboliq's. Everyone can say "the car formerly known as CT5".
There is only one reason to file a trademark application in Switzerland and that is that GM plans on selling BEV Cadillacs there. I suspect that there is a similar application for Symboliq filed wit the EU Trademark Office that is yet to be published. Absent a Green New Deal GM may try to take advantage of the penalties the EU is placing on fossil fuel vehicles to generate volume.

You might be shocked but it's the new reality and possibly the progenitor for a future BEV Mustang coupe.
Ford either does this or wind up like Camaro, a great Sports car that very few want to buy...
The fact that Ford built Ken Block a special version with 1,400 HP shows that Ford is counting on Mach E big time.
I get what you're saying, but these names are all terrible. As already mentioned, their concept names are perfect, and yet go unused for silly bull**** like this!
I find this name, in fact all theq qq names, embarassing. It's like a groupq ofq 11q-yearq-oldqs got together and figured out what would sound suaveq and sophistiquatedq. Theyq wereq rongq.
I think it's a mistaiq to tie your names to the novelty of the electric propulsion system, especially the entire brand. This seems to be a bad habit every automaker has right now. I understand why they want to draw attention, especially early on in the EV makeover of the industry. But longterm that causes problems as the novelty wears off and contrasts with the most successful EV brand in history which doesn't treat their EVs like the 'other' car that needs the on-the-nose cheesy branding.
I really can't wait for the time when EVs are not such attention seeking novelties. I want the tech, just not the big banner that comes with it.
Meanwhile, the smarter play seems to be developing affordable hybrids and PHEVs for the masses,
it looks to be a more subtle approach that reaches a lot more existing customers and achieved some
serious gains in fuel economy for vehicles engaged in a lot of variable speed running.
Until GM or Ford delivers BEVs that are direct replacements for ICEs both in ability and price,
they will remain the play thing of the stupidly rich who can take the loss when they lose interest.
How about a gutless wonder, the Anemiq? or likewise.
