I was just going to say that the ATS in top trim level looks just as new as the CT4 design-wise. I still love the CT4-V but I agree.

Oh and those new horizontal lighting elements are really washing the brand identity away. I keep staring at it and it's NOT working. AT ALL.

It's a warmed over ATS, and it's D-U-L-L. Boring. Like, beyond dated. I wish Cadillac luck with this car, but I see a flop in the making. Good thing it didn't cost them as much this time around.

"Flop in the making" is unfortunately likely, simply because that's the state of the market. How many cars in this class are setting the market on fire?

But I don't know what you expect from Cadillac. You say that CT4 is boring. Do you find the cars that it will compete against to be daring, groundbreaking designs?

It has all new bodywork, new exterior. It's a new car. It's a next generation ATS. Not every new car is totally new from the ground up. The car already had great architecture to start with.
Drives a 2019 Cadillac ATS Coupe and a 1988 Pontiac Trans Am GTA.

In the past, I've had a 5th gen Camaro, a CTS sedan and coupe, two 3rd gen Firebird Formulas, a convertible 4th gen Trans Am, a Reatta, a couple of Monte Carlos, an Avenger coupe, a couple of Cavalier hatchbacks, a Saturn SC1, and a Cherokee.

Exactly, this isn't a MCE, this is clearly what the next gen ATS was going to be...and I'm not sure how that is a bad thing??

Maybe it's just the lightingor the way it's parked but what a snoozefest. Could be a Buick or even worse a Hyundai. Those wheels look heavy and cheap as well.

It is what it is - a refreshed ATS.

If it means a lower base price then mission accomplished. If they list XT4 for $34,995, expect them to pile up on dealer lots.

Its enough of an update to pass for an all new model.

    New exterior - check
    New interior - check
    New powertrains - check

If that ain't a new model...then I dont know what is. There wasn't anything wrong with Alpha so why should we expect a massive platform update with every generation?

It will no doubt look much better in person, and if it is boring/sleep inducing or a snooze fest, then that must make the new A class Rumpelstiltskin!

It’s called evolution. A 10yo Mercedes, Lexus, etc doesn’t necessarily have the same style as a corresponding new model. And Lincoln changes its “brand look” every five minutes.

This updated ATS looks plenty Cadillac to me but I’ll wait to judge when it’s actually in person. My partner is seriously interested in this (w the help of my strong suggestions) to replace his G35

Re: Spied: 2020 Cadillac CT4 Completely Undisguised

Accepting the new Escala design theme will come w/ time...remember all the bitching and moaning when Jaguar updated the XJ...all we heard for the first couple of years was that it looks nothing like a Jaguar, now...we're kinda used to it and no longer hear any complaints when Jaguar rolls out a XJ derived design.

Only thing I'd recommend is some sort of design detail on the lower portion of the sides similar to the Chrome blade from the Escala just to dress it up a little. It just seems really plain from the side view. Otherwise its a non offensive design that should do well at it's pricepoint.

I'd argue CT4 looks much better than the ATS, there's more Cadillac DNA styling, it's more impressive looking and has more and better presence.

Having said that, it's apparent they didn't have to go far to substantially upgrade the appearance.

I'm not sure what is going through the Debbie's respective heads, but I certainly hope this isn't another naming issue with them. Meaning if this was the 2nd gen ATS then they'd be happy, meaning they are only unhappy because the name changed to CT4, therefore it should look a lot different. Same story as the XT6, if it were named XT5-L then they'd all be happy Debbie's.

And this is one picture at one angle. BMWboy2007 gave us a reminder above how different some of the angles look.

Its extremely identifiable.. even with the new front face. I challenge U to find me a European competitor that is more unique.. X out the front face on even the Guilia and U are looking a 95% 3Series design.

Plus.. the days of the Eldo and the ones who bought them has passed. Witnessed by a sales slide in Cadillac car sales altogether. The CTS and ATS were hands down the most unique.. and arguably the best mid and small luxos on the market.. all the way up to the last production vehicle.

Most haters could really even find one issue with the ATS.. and that was the backseat. Said so many times its folk lore now and the Go to insult for the car. Its like trying to find ACTUAL dirt on Obama. The most hated President in racist American history

Too bad they didn't build the ATS-L (CT4-L?) for the states. Couldn't really sell less.
I agree with this. The name changing at GM needs to stop. I hope the hell that this is the naming scheme for the next 100 years. Hell with that 1-2 gens. They should have done numbers at the end to begin with

The greenhouse is identical, but if you look beyond that, the average buyer won't even notice it's a reskinned ATS - and the average buyer honestly won't even notice the greenhouse being the same.

I think it looks better, though I don't like all the design elements. I think the crest up front looks too large and I'm not liking the way the trunk and rear bumper interacts - there are a a few too many lines and things, some of which are unresolved/just end. But, I do think it looks better.

Even the "not-as-into-cars-as-I-am" boyfriend asked a question that made me think. He asked, "Isn't this the same kind of redo Dodge gave the Charger ('14 vs '15)? Same car but different car but still the same car?"

Lol D*mn - I guess so. I was hoping not but I guess so.
My point was to people going so far as the doors were the same.. that the car was basically a new front face and rear butt lift. On one site some dweeb said that U could take a door off of it and put it right on an ATS and vice versa.. Not possible
