Press Release: Next-Generation 640-hp Cadillac CTS-V Launches This Summer

    Next-Generation 640-hp Cadillac CTS-V Launches This Summer
U.S. DEALERS BEGIN ACCEPTING ORDERS NOW FOR CADILLAC’S UPCOMING PERFORMANCE ICON
    General Motors
    2015-04-29

DETROIT – Cadillac announced today that U.S. dealers will begin accepting orders for the next-generation 2016 CTS-V, the all-new high-performance sedan that launches in late summer. The 640-hp CTS-V is the second of two all-new V-Series models to come to market in 2015, following the smaller ATS-V coupe and sedan, which launches in late spring.

With a top speed of 200 mph and 0-60 performance in 3.7 seconds, the CTS-V is the most powerful car in Cadillac’s 112-year history. The 2016 CTS-V is priced from $83,995. Customers can place orders now with dealers and view additional product information at Cadillac.com.

“V-Series represents the pinnacle of Cadillac, a brand that now makes drivers’ cars at the highest level,” said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac president. “The new CTS-V is essentially two cars in one: a luxury sedan with sophisticated road manners and a track-capable sports car with awe-inspiring performance. This type of car is exclusive, the domain of the few who can access this level of incredible capability. V-Series matches or overtakes the finest cars in this elite class, while being more accessible.”

Equipped with a 6.2L supercharged V-8 and an eight-speed automatic transmission that offers full manual control via steering wheel paddles, the CTS-V has more horsepower (640 hp/477 kW) and more torque (630 lb-ft/855 Nm) than the Mercedes-Benz 5.5L biturbo V-8 and the BMW M-series 4.4L TwinPower V-8.

Great news. Can't wait to see it in a comparison test with the other industry heavyweights.

And though I know that JDN didn't have a whole lot to do with it's development, I'm glad he's bringing a bit of bravado to the launch.

Re: Press Release: Next-Generation 640-hp Cadillac CTS-V Launches This Summer

Undercutting the competition in price was the way to go - it worked well for the last generation CTS-V, and this is "yet more car for the money". Heck, compared to the last CTS-V, it's certainly worth the extra dough.

The question I come up with was why/how they priced the CTS-V so much lower than the Germans but the ATS-V is on-par. I'd wager the cost of the powertrain in the ATS-V was a lot of the culprit - the S/C V8 isn't an expensive engine to build by any stretch of the imagination.

I imagine it will approach $100K topped out with high end equipment like steering wheel and seats.

Curious about this too. Perhaps they didn't want CTS-V stacking up at dealers so they went the safe route.

    Cadillac CTS-V: $83,995
    BMW M5: $93,600

SMART. Seriously. I think getting the bulk of these out the door for high 90s, low 100s is gonna be good for them. You can't touch an M5 here in Los Angeles for anything under $115k.

ATS had less wiggle room considering the new changes to the engine. Vs the CTS-V didn't require any engine development

I priced out a ZL1 with all options and it came in at almost $70,000.00 from $54,000.00 still with a manual. This will probably surpass the $100K when all is said and done.
