A halo supercar for the Cadillac brand has been rumored on and off for years now. As far as we know, no such car exists in Caddy's current product plans. But now that the long-awaited C8 2020 Chevrolet Corvette has been revealed, we couldn't help but wonder what a Cadillac based on those same mid-engine bones might look like. These renderings should give you a pretty good idea.

Obviously just a MT rendering, but pretty cool looking! I think it should be all electric to really differentiate it from the Corvette, otherwise Cadillac doesn't have much leverage to charge more than the Corvette.

Exactly. Otherwise it's XLR Part II.

Re: Here's What a C8 Corvette-Based Cadillac Halo Car Might Look Like

Can't say that the MT rendering overly impresses me.

As much as I like Cadillac and the idea of a this sort of car coming from them, I doubt that it's worth the investment. No matter how good, I have my doubts that it would sell to Cadillac's expectations. They can sell out a limited number of Blackwing CT6, but that's a luxury sedan. Cadillac does luxury sedans. They do huge luxury SUVS. I just don't see many people lining up to buy a Cadillac mid-engine sports car. That's what the Corvette is for.

And while Cadillac wouldn't be trying to sell something like this as a volume car, they need it to be something that people really admire and envy and desire. I don't think the Cadillac brand has that draw to sell any sports car. And more importantly, I don't think it would create a halo effect that would help move their sedans. I'm not so sure that the halo effect is real for any brand.

The XLR had some failings. The interior wasn't good enough. But at a glance, it was an impressive looking car. The people that I know mostly just didn't care. They had no idea if the interior was any good because they never got close enough. They don't care how fast it was or about the retractable hardtop. They saw a Cadillac and they just didn't care. Cadillac is still fighting that.

Personally, I hope Cadillac does not produce a Corvette-based car. The market for such vehicles is small and I dont think GM needs 2 on the books.

I don’t think that’s the only way to make this fly as a Cadillac, but I do think it’s the most likely scenario in a slew of unlikely scenarios. As an alternative, completely unlikely as it is, they could go genuine Bentley level with the interior and do something crazy like use a bespoke V16 that’s more or less two short deck Blackwing V8’s mounted end to end. Tool that up and call it the Cadillac Sixteen and you could sell it for damned near whatever you want. Of course, it’s not happening but.....

Agreed. Having sat in the C8 Corvette yesterday I don't think the cabin space would be appropriate for a Cadillac anyways.

I think more people would go for a true Escala type large four door (or two door) luxury coupe from Cadillac than a C8 based Cadillac sports car. And i think the "halo" effect would be better for the brand. We've seen those coupe drawings, wonder if there's anything to them.

One true luxury sports type coupe and one true luxury Range Rover type crossover would do wonders for the brand IMO.

Re: Here's What a C8 Corvette-Based Cadillac Halo Car Might Look Like

I think a Cadillac V...as this should be called would serve as Caddy's take on the R8, i8, AMG GT...it's technological and performance flagship offering. Equipped w/ a 4.2TT it would have performance greater than the base vette but below any performance variant...Z06/ZR1. One other must have for this would be some sort of Active Aero that doesn't involve a fixed spoiler you can get away w/ massive spoilers on the 'Vette...not here for the base V.

This just came to me...What if this is the Cadillac Blackwing? Still a stupid name

We know something is in the works from the earlier Cadillac key fob shots showing a mid engine car icon.

Exactly. And with as good as the C8 interior looks in pictures, what's the point of a Cadillac version?

Cadillac should concentrate on its purpose. Luxury vehicles. Leave the sports cars to Chevrolet or to the Corvette brand if they go that route.

If I was Corvette and wanted my own family of vehicles (ala Porsche), I wouldn't want to share the platform with Cadillac. Let Cadillac do their own.
