Funny thing is, after seeing all the choices, the last picture (the real C-pillar) somehow looks right to me.
That's because there never was anything wrong with the C Pillar in the first place. Typical GMI knee jerk reaction to any new Cadillac FIND SOMETHING WRONG THAT ISNT WRONG

The Honda Accord has a similar overall window profile, but were able to successfully have a real window.
But they're also FWD AND the rear window doesn't roll all the way down either.

Re: Hate the CT5 C-Pillar? Check This Out!

I'll wait until I see the real thing. The designers went with almost a clean sheet design, so not a lot of limitations, and this is the direction they took. I think the reality will be a lot better than most of us are expecting based on the not very good GM photos. I'm starting to actually like it.

Go and look at the hatches on countless CUV/SUV's and cars like the Mercedes SL. They nearly all have fake glass to a certain degree. The glass shape is generally way bigger than the area that you can see out of, and the rest is blacked out. The SL has two giant black triangles flanking the rear glass to make the window look larger than it is. They didn't even do a good job as it was done in three pieces rather than one piece of glass. All manufacturers do this to one degree or another. CT5 will look fine, and besides they made ingress/egress much better on the rear door, by taking this approach.

Thank you, eb110! Your efforts made me realize that the issue is not the C-Pillar per se, but the surrounding moulding. Remove the "teat" at the trailing edge of the moulding and the C-Pillar is much improved!

I didn't realize a 3rd window makes a car look muscular or not.

Thought the same thing. I do like the second last as well but overall I think the production design works the best.

Who said it had anything to do with a 3rd window? It has to do with your beloved can do nothing wrong Cadillac STEALING a design element right off of a HONDA! LOL.

TBH I'd rather have a rear window that doesn't roll all the way down instead of the static quarter window on the CT5. it busies up the area and clutters the window structure.

Definitely. In most vehicles with 4 windows/doors, the rear windows hardly seem to get used and rolled down all the way. For that reason, I'd rather deal with a partially opening window as well, rather than look at a cheap looking fixed window 100% of the time.

Why is it cheap looking though?

It's just what GM does to have a more functional rear window as does almost every other sedan maker in the world. In fact, the only one that really doesn't in this class is the A5.

I'd have a rear window that goes down 95% of the way versus 40% of the way.

Technically it'll be in the 75% range...the accord looks much better with the single pane. When I roll all the windows down it's usually when I'm riding solo, so I pretty much dgaf how far the rears make it down.

Again, the Accord gets away with it because it's FWD. It doesnt have the cabin pushed back like on most RWD cars and has a longer rear door to stuff the window in. Look at how large the lower portion of the door, to allow for the glass to fit, is in relation to the CT5.

It would make sense to have a full pane window if the CT5 had a frameless design, like the A5, to them but they dont so this is what we get as is.

The rear windows were compared to the Saturn Ion, ever since then I can't unsee it. It just reminds me of all the 80's and 90's cars with a similar design. I just don't like it.

And as mentioned above, who really needs the rear window to roll down? New cars aren't designed well for all window down cruising, unlike back in the 60's where they had to since most cars didn't have A/C. My 58 Edsel, or early Camaros are nice to cruise with the windows down, anything new just seems to beat you up with the airflow. Who needs the windows all the way down, kids? My truck is primarily just me, I can't think of when I roll those windows in the back down. I rarely roll the front passenger's one down actually.
