Hate the CT5 C-Pillar? Check This Out!

Yeah, I hate it too, so I made these. There are a lot of other ways Cadillac could have taken that part of the design. I am honestly vexed by the fact that they settled on this as their best effort. At any rate, opine on your favorites...

    First, the original.

First, a 4-door coupe take. The roofline is too arched for this method, so it yields a slightly Cruze/200 look to it. Definitely not my favorite.

Next, an upkick to move the focus forward a bit. I used to like this kind of treatment when BMW was the only one with "the Hofmeister Kink." Now everything from the Boxter to the BRZ has it, and I prefer something more like the next render.

This is more to my liking. It's also the closest one to the traditional downward-angled rear quarter glass on the CTS, ATS, etc.--only much more elongated.

Here is something a bit more traditional. American. Upright. Looks a little Charger-esque to me.

Going for a more angular look, this is starting to get good.

Taking the angle steeper, I feel that this is the direction Cadillac should have gone.

    For comparison, the original again.

Wow - thanks for the effort to make all of the different iterations!

Funny thing is, after seeing all the choices, the last picture (the real C-pillar) somehow looks right to me.

    Thanks for the renderings!

This one looks -- by far -- the cleanest to me:

I suspect that the designers went thru similar iterations, and came to the same conclusion.

The last one and the second one do this car the most justice IMO.

Why not appreciate the work that went into different views? It's cool to see what could have been. Admit it, the Tahoe headlight is just as strange as the kink and we've all grown used to it and we'll do the same here.

I like the last one the best. Thanks!

    Very cool!

I don't really mind the C-pillar on the production model, but I'm also a fan of your last rendering.

As someone who was an outspoken opponent of the Tahoe redesign, I have to wholeheartedly agree. It's grown on me a lot, and I've not come to a decision on CT5 yet for this very reason. It's tough to look at a redesign objectively when you have so much love for the outgoing design.

Hey drama queen, you're at a 7, we could use you at a 2.

It's not fine, it's frivolous design that serves no purpose except for someone that probably snaps their fingers instead of clapping to say that they wanted to take what everyone else is doing but give it some much needed flair. The problem is, the reason why everyone else does the same thing is because that's what works. Every now and again, someone new comes along looking to make a name for themselves thinking they can do what no one else has been able to do with something instead of accepting that it's been tried before and there's a reason why no one does it.

I like the "charger" one but the ORIGINAL is fine also
to me the car just does NOT look "RIGHT" but GM can WRECK a car with a photoshoot and the REAL thing is worlds better like the NEW Silverado that LOOKS better in person then ANY pic GM coughed up

"GM can WRECK a car with a photoshoot"

They certainly did with the gray one.

I appreciate the effort, but I think they want to de-emphasize the wedge as much as possible.

Just for something different, I'd like to see it with the upper chrome piece extended down to (or near) the taillight. That would at least distract attention from the black triangle. The nub doesn't quite do it for me.

It might also look better with the 2 parallel window breaks leaning forward a little instead of straight up.

It appears what is throwing a lot of people off is the glaring filler plastic insert.

The Honda Accord has a similar overall window profile, but were able to successfully have a real window.
