The sedan is still alive and kicking for Cadillac – even though more of its customers will probably keep buying SUVs.

“Cadillac is not abandoning the sedan market,” says Brandon Vivian, Cadillac’s executive chief engineer. “Is the SUV craze over? I don’t think so, but we’re going to put our vision out there.”

In the race between sedans and SUVs, SUVs are still leading. Last year, Cadillac sold 5,875 of its XT5 SUVs in Canada but just 449 CTS sedans.

“You’ll see an expansion of the V-Series,” says Mirza Grebovic, performance variants manager for Cadillac. “We’re trying to go out with a bang while internal combustion is still kicking.”

I admire their tenacity for trying to make sedans work, I will say that.

However, CT4 is a massaged ATS at best, CT5 doesn't look like a Cadillac, CT6 is an afterthought that's going to die soon, as is XTS. Not exactly an awe inspiring lineup of sedans.

The *******ization of the "V' brand with the truck engine powered CT4-V and V6 powered CT5-V really is a shame. Cadillac took the only thing they had going for them, the one single thing that they spent nearly 2 decades perfecting... and just **** all over it. Too bad.

And no, "Blackwing" isn't going to accepted like "V" used to be. It's a stupid name, a bad idea, and Cadillac is making a mistake. The cars will be fast, cool, and drive really well, but the motive behind it is wrong, and a total mistake.

    +1
Kudos to Cadillac for doing that. Even better, it appears that the ATS' and third gen CTS' magical chassis tuning will be preserved in the upcoming CT4 and CT5.

I’ve seen the CT5 (auto show) but not the CT4. Based on seeing the CT5 I’m highly confident I will really like the CT4. Always better to see ‘em for yourself, photos can often be deceiving.

I for one have zero interest in crossovers so yes I’m very glad Caddy is keeping the sedans coming. I’m hoping for a Coupe some day again...if not might have to pick up a used ATS Coupe at some point.

I saw the CT5 at the NY Auto Show. Do you have a preference of the sport styling vs. the luxury styling? I found myself liking the luxury styling a lot more....

Yes CT5 Prem Lux hands down! The CT4 Sport might be different, certainly the CT4-V looks great in photos. Really liking the new colors and the new XT4-ish interiors look excellent. Way better than ATS IMO. However I could be tempted by one of the few used stick ATSs around...depending on price etc.

    A V8 Coupe based on CT6-V would cool...call it the CT7.

Personally, I resisted forever until life forced my hand with my cars. I'm 6'5, 36 and cars are getting harder and harder to get out of. CUVs are a great tool for people like me. I absolutely miss driving a car every single day. After I get my truck, I'm going back to a car as the youngest kid will be 8-10 then so much much easier than car seats.

I need to see the CT5. I do like the design of it. I swoon every time I see an Audi A5. That fastback look has a great feel to it. Did Cadillac pull it off?? I hope so.

Re: For Cadillac, the sedan is still alive and well

These vehicles … help reinforce not only performance, but its gets people used to seeing Cadillacs commanding high prices,” Karwel said in an e-mail.

“What they portray to the market is that Cadillac has the machinery and know-how to go toe-to-toe with the [largely] German High performance sedans. Vehicles like these are all about bragging rights and marketing.”

And, V-Series versions of the brand’s SUVs might be in the works.

“You’ll see an expansion of the V-Series,” says Mirza Grebovic, performance variants manager for Cadillac. “We’re trying to go out with a bang while internal combustion is still kicking.”
Great quote and a hopeful becon to show the way of where the brand is finally going in a positive directions.

ALAS!!! BLACKWING.. if that is its name.. as the premier performance brand in the Cadillac line-up.. I'm on board and have zero issue with turning over my VSeries to aquire a new Black Wing edition. Who cares what they call it unless U're a blow-hard? I'm pretty sure their dad had a problem with it being called the VSeries back in '04 when that came out and didn't buy one..not even V-SPORT.. not even used.. so whatever

Sad times. Nothing but tall ugly boxes on wheels everywhere.

    I shouldn’t have called a CT6-V Coupe a CT7. I shoulda called it...

Normally I greatly prefer cars over CUV's, though I was admiring a new Buick Enclave yesterday - that is, by far, the best looking CUV on the road.
