    Re: Cadillac Reveals 2020 CT5

Just spent a while looking at this car using the hi-res pictures.

I actually don't mind the C-pillar and I think the car is generally quite nice. I can see the why there is controversy - Cadillac could have avoided it all by just giving it a "normal" back window. Probably should have done that.

Anyway - this could be my new car next year. My CTS is getting old and I'm ready to step up!

Only time will tell if the new 2020 Cadillac CT5 will be a sale success or decent seller. That 1980 Cadillac Seville in the thumb nail pic. Was a controversial design when it came out. Some folks didn't like the look and others did. But Cadillac did had good sale numbers with that design. People brought them, those models are now slowly becoming collectable classics.

2G Seville is collectible now but sales were poor compared to the more traditional first generation.

Yeah that true sales was poor compared to the first generation. But it was still way better in sales then the 3 gen downsize Seville that came after it. Cadillac had play it too safe with the 3 gen Seville, car designers have to find the right balance in style not to boring and not to radical.

Black glass is the way to go on CT5 though, as it's reflective qualities would match the fixed window in the rear door, and the rest of the windows.
I won't lie, I've honestly wondered how viable a side business that produces glossy plastic pieces for these 3rd window triangles would be.

Thanks to you, I just did the same. The door handles are interestingly asymmetrical. I can't figure out the reflection in the driver's door of the red one. It must be the seat, but what a weird shape.

Edit: I thought it was perforated leather, but it looks more like a textured cloth, and it must the side bolster--which is never perforated. Will wonders never cease!

No, it reflects the spotlights on the driver's window trim, so it's glossy. I believe the C pillar area has been deglossed in the photo for some reason. The side windows are altered to obscure much of the interior.

Cadillac did a nice job with the XT4 extra bits of fake window, so I think this will be better in real life.

I wish someone could design a console shift that didn't collect crud and wasn't a dial or buttons.

the coupe still looks amazing. actually looked to buy one used a few years ago and none to be found near me. wouldn't mind a 10 or 15 yo one picked up cheap in the future to add to the garage.

I wanted a coupe badly, but I'd have to recline the seat too much to reach the wheel, and I found the 2nd gen seats didn't fit me like the 1st gen's did.

Ha, I just got a needle out to painstakingly clean the mess I made spilling my protein drink after working out. The thick drink got into the cracks between my cupholders and the piano black where the gear shift starts. Was driving me nuts for a few weeks as I let it dry out so I could scrape it, I could clearly see the line of "protein white", at least the needle worked very well and was able to get all of it out.

And since we have a huge thread on the "cheap C pillar", I do want to point out that we had really long threads on the "cheap" piano black plastic in the interior of the ATS. My ATS is over 5 years old with 90k miles, the "cheap" piano black plastic still looks good as new with no scratches. In other words, give things a chance before declaring failure, I suspect the C pillar on the XT5 will look a lot better to most once we see the real thing.

I just hope with all of this hate being created before anyone sees the real thing doesn't destine the car to failure, same as the negative press on CUE.

    Pity.
I see more Alfas than Caddies these days. Infiniti as well. But I do see a few XT5's and the occasional CTS so at least there is a pulse left at Cadillac.

Buick on the other hand is like a unicorn as far as new vehicles go. Perhaps those "Buy American" types are not warming up to the Korean, Chinese, Polish and German points of assembly...

Went to prom in one. An 84, off-white with a blue carriage top. My parents'. Everyone thought I was the richest sob in school when I drove that. Definitely not, but the car was absolutely money

This car is the equivalent of the last gen GTO Pontiac launched which initiated the beginning of the end for Pontiac. A shame that GM squandered such proud name plates like Pontiac and now Cadillac. RIP.

I or someone else, posted this way back in this thread. Likely it will be gloss. The entire picture has been photographed or air brushed/digitally altered, to give it a matte finish without reflections. I'm thinking the black would be printed on the back, rather than solid black glass.
