    Cadillac Ends CTS Production After 16 Years And 3 Generations

    The Cadillac CTS, once GM’s premium sedan rival to the Germans, is no more, after the announcement that production at the Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan has ceased.

    Cadillac spokesperson Tara Kuhnen confirmed the news in a statement provided to Cadillac Society, bringing an end to a vehicle which has been a staple in Cadillac’s range for 16 years. The new CT5 will fill the void left behind by the CTS and shall be built at the same plant.

    This is silly; they just refreshed it and changed the name.

    Implying the CT5 is a "just refreshed" CTS is silly.

    Perhaps GM should have ended production of the Camaro in 1969 and "filled the void" with a new fastback in 1970.5?

    The CTS was a great car, I may pick up another someday, hopefully with a V on it this time.

    I keep hoping I will find a bargain low mile CTS-V on Autotrader. Maybe in a few years.

    Agree it is not just refreshed, but you could just as easily have called the CT5 a gen iv CTS. I just cannot believe the commotion that the naming convention is causing. Can we talk about the cars instead of the names, pretty please... I just cannot believe the literally hundreds of comments about the names. Does the new CT5 have better skidpad numbers?, how about brake distances?, How about the new 3L TT engine? Changes to the ride, I hear they are softening it some? Anything but the name for gods sake.

    I know of one young man who is already starting to drool at that prospect.
    Drives a 2019 Cadillac ATS Coupe and a 1988 Pontiac Trans Am GTA.

    In the past, I've had a 5th gen Camaro, a CTS sedan and coupe, two 3rd gen Firebird Formulas, a convertible 4th gen Trans Am, a Reatta, a couple of Monte Carlos, an Avenger coupe, a couple of Cavalier hatchbacks, a Saturn SC1, and a Cherokee.

    The CTS lives on as the new CT5, they changed the S to a 5. No real story here.

    I don't know about that, but I do think the original design was a game changer of sorts. The very start of "Art and Science" and pristine examples today still look amazing IMO.

    Smart people know this. But that one character change in the model name of Cadillac's midsize executive sedan results in the following:

    1.) Journalists are given the opportunity to write pieces like the CarScoops article linked in the OP that are little more than clickbait;
    2.) The marketing dweebs at GM are given the opportunity to use the equally meaningless phrase "First-Ever" to describe the CT5;
    3.) GM Inside News Forums members get to enjoy a thread like this.

    Saw an old car ad in my Pinterest feed the other day: "First Ever Gran Torino". You'd think the madmen would come up with something new.

    That's kinda like saying the Lincoln MKC was discontinued because the Corsair is replacing it. It gets the clicks.
