The Cadillac CT5-V, like the CT4-V, is no longer a true 'V' like monster-engined Cadillacs of the last 15 years. 'V' now replaces 'V-Sport' as the middle performer, with a new, unnamed product set to slot in above next year. The CT5-V is much like the CTS it replaces, but with more rear seat room, less of the miserable CUE interface, and a 10-speed automatic gearbox mated to the familial 3.0L twin-turbo V6. On paper, it seems promising, but falls well short in how it responds to driver commands.

Cadillac provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

In the Camaro it downshifts quicker if you leave it in auto, and let the computer do the shifting, but its never going to be a DCT

That’s pretty much what all the reviews say of the 10-Speed in any application.
I am on the border of genius and crazy. I keep trying to cross over into genius, but ICE keeps sending me back to the crazy side of the border.

If it doesn't want to be a "V", why did it take the designation?

So 3/4's of the review goes to complaining about downshifting. Sounds like a thrilling car and he didn't have much to complain about.

And I've said it before, everyone has figured out the V lineup change - reviewers can stop pretending they can't figure it out. It would be one thing if this was the new top end V, but it isn't. I'm more than happy GM has expanded the line to include something more moderate.

Especially this one that is pretending that he expects a 10 Speed to behave like a Dual Clutch.

I found him to be annoying, keeps repeating himself - I "got it" about the downshifts after the first 5 comments he made, the additional 50 were superfluous and what annoyed me. I'd rather he have made his comments about the downshifts maybe 3 times and then spend the rest of the time talking about other aspects of the car.

No one cares more about the "V" than a handful of reviewers. Just another reason to whine about Cadillac / GM. Just not that confusing if you have half a brain.

Personally this is a V I can afford and live with as a daily driver. For 98% of buyers, this is a much better and affordable option that the Blackwing.

“...with a new, unnamed product set to slot in above next year”.
That line there will tell you how uninformed this guy is. The BLACKWING name has been official for months. Was he asleep? Anyway, clearly he isn’t a Cadillac fan, and the majority of reviews have been very positive for the entry level CT5-V. This guy’s opinion is an outlier. Next.

He was also not very impressed with the CTS V. So no surprises here. I wonder why GM doesn’t rate these rags. I would never indulge someone that goes out of their way to disparage my products and makes it difficult for me to sell them. Ever.

I couldn't watch all of that...really who gives a fart about how quick the car downshifts on decel as long as it is in, or quickly finds the right gear for when you get back on the throttle.

My problem is he's not rating it for what it is, he's rating it for what he wants it to be. He want's it to be the V Blackwing, which it isn't. It's built for someone like me as a daily driver. As much as the kid in me wants the AWD to be sport oriented, the practical side of me that knows this is a daily driver wants weather oriented AWD and all season tires. He probably would like the rwd CT5 V better, but he didn't drive it. Because he's frustrated about not driving the car he wanted to he shouldn't take it out of the car he actually drove.

I don't think his downshifting issue is a big deal with this V. The V Blackwing I think should downshift like he wants.

He is famous, an American Clarkson in his own head, therefore, when he says stars should align, they should align, because he said so...

Your analogy is totally on point. If they put a DCT in a commuter executive Sedan, they would be butchered by the same people for doing so.

Cadillac manages to do very very stupid things every year.
Just chalk this as one of those things.
