    Cadillac CT4 Spied

    BY: CHRIS BRUCE,

New spy shots provide our first look at the upcoming Cadillac CT4 while it laps General Motors' Milford Proving Ground. With the ATS sedan allegedly getting the axe soon, this four-door would take over its role as an entry-level product in Caddy's lineup.

This test mule wears lots of camouflage that keeps us from drawing too many specific conclusions about the CT4's styling (above left). Compared to the upcoming, larger CT5 (above right), this sedan looks less muscular, but they share a similarly chiseled overall aesthetic. The exterior has plenty of sensors, including an array of them on the roof and another on the grille. Looking closely, the front end appears to have Cadillac's cascading headlights, and the taillights have a similar vertical layout.

There are few technical details available about the CT4 at this time. Cadillac promises that all of its models by 2020 would have the brand's Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system that allows for hands-free motoring. The cutting-edge tech could be a major selling point for the sedan by offering commuters a more comfortable way to get to work.

I just pray it has a decent back seat and trunk.

I would have bought an ATS if it had those things.

It looks like an automobile, possibly a potted plant.

You're going to be disappointed, it isn't any larger than the ATS. If they're smart, they'll wring some more legroom by reshaping the seats.

I can't find ATS photos from the same exact angles, but it looks like they've considerably de-emphasized the wedge shape without altering the ATS greenhouse. It doesn't look like the same basic car in the rear 3/4 shot.

I like it's profile. I'm with the others in hoping Cadillac has learned it's lesson with the ATS and has a more usable back seat and trunk.

    I can see it's a reskinned ATS. Can't you?

I can also see my last comment was ambiguous. When I said it doesn't look like the ATS, I don't mean it isn't the same car, it just looks like it isn't.

    Re: Cadillac CT4 Spied

I would have preferred JDN had remained long enough to unveil it himself, maybe at the Cadillac brand location in Manhattan South.

I rather doubt what we get will be altogether consistent with his vision. Obviously there was a major difference of opinion regarding the direction of the brand at RenCen and JDN. Corporate bean counters rioted over the money that a true effort to structurally address the decades long mismanagement of the brand would require.

Someone needs to address the deep structural problems that plague Cadillac to this day. The half-measures is all we need team is now in charge.

It's a road to failure and ignominy, and indicates a lack of vision, thus proving the brass hats and bean counters are bereft of foresight. I'd hoped for a better outcome. The brand deserves better.

Its difficult for me to tell scale from photos without reference points, like it parked next to a car I am farmiliar with.

I cant wait to see this car. It looks to be just a re-skinned ATS, but surely it is more than that. Appearance wasnt the issue with the ATS, it was the packaging (possibly pricing) and an interior that could have definitely been better. Its hard to believe Cadillac would basically extensively facelift the ATS and expect to have more sales success this time around. They must have made more fundamental changes and improvements than are apparent in these spy shots.

They've implied the price will be lower for both CT4 & 5, which could mean they'll just discount them less, IWO just marketing. Aren't most of this cars leased these days?

My memory from 2013 was that the front seat was cramped widthwise. Making the seat backs, doors panels, and console/hump thinner would help but may be impossible. Lighter interior colors would help at least the perception of space.

The biggest improvement Cadillac could make to the interior (of all its cars) is a stitched leather or vinyl steering wheel hub. I can't understand why they can't see that something literally right in front of them looks cheap and fake.
