I don't think anyone is backpedalling here, the rub is that Cadillac is using a "400" badge on the XT6 to make it sound as if its something more than what it is. Its overcompensating if I've ever seen it, its akin to starting a particular measurement back at the gooch. If it were badged "350" (proper rounding from 367...BTW) or 300 for its HP rating, then no one would give 2 s---ts. But this double rounding that they've done to attain 400 is utterly ridiculous.

Could be. Lots of automakers do that.

What about Ford's "500"? What was that about?

    Are we falling behind?

Should we bring out a 600?

I'm just glad our trucks are 1500, instead of Fords lowly F-150. Pfft, losers.

I think of the Buick GS400. Yeah, this is a lot like that. Yup, 400 massive Amurrican cubic inches of torkies, four-barrel carb, ummm

Ok...the same can be said of the CT6...Is there a 7 or 8, Why is it a 6 when there isn't any other? Also, the upcoming CT4&5, Why are they 4 and 5? Will there be something smaller? Or what if we criticzed every car that has a number designation...but that isn't the point here. These are additional badges adorning a car that is already badged - w/ a number that is in no way shape or form applicable to the car in an effort to make it look more substantial than it already is.

That's completely different. Those are the name of the vehicle, not intended to "advertise"/display the vehicle's power. This Cadillac system is designed to literally "show off" the car's power. Only it uses a system nobody in its home market uses, and it's generously rounded on top of that. Your average person is going to think it means horsepower (the only figure most people are vaguely familiar with), and I guarantee your average salesman will tout the number as such - themselves having no clue what it means.

Wow.. I guess this is more millennials-in-charge stuff.. I don't know anyone that knows or can relate to whatever fig newton meters are supposed to be or what that represents. Maybe spend more time on the actual vehicles you're designing and how those are being marketed..

Several years ago power ratings started being listed in kW in addition to the traditional HP ratings, which makes some sense, especially with slow rollout of electrification.. But this is a head scratcher. I'm non-plussed with this move.

Decades ago you might would see a discreet 327, 427, 350, 454 or 396 on the forward front fender of a car, but that was engine size, not power output. When you had 6 engine choices, that was relevant.

We're not confused...we just don't like how Caddy is over embellishing. They took the 271 ft/lb torque rating, rounded that up to 300 then converted that to NM to get 400. At least that's what I hoped they did instead of rounding it's true NM rating of 367 up to 400.

NM are totally irrelevant here. It's not us who are losing our minds, it's the Name Game Committee at GM. And their minds departed some time back.
