The Cadillac XT6 is an upcoming, three-row crossover of “midsize plus” dimensions that will slot above the midsize XT5. We previously brought you various spy photos of the XT6 undergoing testing in a good level of camouflage, but we now have some new information about its interior.

Sources have told Cadillac Society that the cabin of the future Cadillac XT6 will have an identical cockpit to that of the Cadillac XT5. In other words, the design and layout of the XT6’s cabin will be identical to that of the current XT5, but with two key differences:

The XT6 will feature rotary controls for the infotainment system (something the 2020 model year refresh will also bring to the XT5), and
The XT6 will feature more room to accommodate a third row seat
That means that the Cadillac XT6 will not adopt the interior configuration of new Cadillac models such as the XT4 and upcoming CT5, which feature a new interior with a horizontal dashboard/center stack layout. However, the decision to give the XT6 the same interior as the XT5 makes sense given its close relationship to the XT5: the XT6 will essentially be a stretched version of the XT5.

If they sell more of the same basic interior, maybe they can use the cost and complexity savings to offer more colors and materials.

Cadillac had one interior setup across all lines as recently as 1974; one terrific aesthetic across the board versus several suboptimal designs would be preferable.

Actually as recently as a few years ago, the haptic feedback CUE dashboard was throughout the entire lineup, from the ATS to the Escalade.

Of course, they really had only 2 lines, Eldo and RWD sedans, which were all the same width and made in the same plant, until the 75 Seville--whose dash had a similar style but smaller. Back then, they had a different interior color for nearly every exterior color, and a lot fewer neutrals for both, not to mention 2 cloth choices or leather. Why they can't manage something close to that with all the advanced manufacturing systems is beyond me.

If they are built on the same architecture, it makes sense. The XT5 has a very nice interior. The updates for XT5 should keep it up to date.
Second Row and 3rd Row is where Cadillac needs to bring their A Game.

Building the XT6 off the Traverse platform is going to print money for Cadillac. What they must absolutely do is make sure there is nothing inside out from ride quality to feel touch, etc that is like the Enclave/Traverse/Accadia.
Lastly, that 3.0 liter twin turbo or the 3.6 liter twin turbo needs to slot inside into this SUV, otherwise an Exploder is just a much better buy.

This way buyers can go from Cadillac to Cadillac and everything will be familiar I guess.

True, but you didn't get a lesser dash by buying a Calais.

Thinking as well about the late '70s and early '80s Mercedes sedans. Same basic design and quality in varying sizes and for different target customers.

Even now, Mercedes has a theme accross all products, For Cadillac, there is a generation architecture going into newer cars, I wonder if XT4 is on an older architecture or new in the CT5

Try to justify this nonsense if you will by what the Germans are doing, but it sounds to me that GM is doubling down on mediocrity.

I’m not too horrified that they’re using the interior of their best-selling vehicle in a slightly longer version. Especially as they’re tweaking it for 2020 with some infotainment knobs. That said, you’d think they’d have some other changes they want for the interior at this point for both XT5 and XT6. Any new colors? Materials?

    You did--No fake wood!
Textured black plastic instead and vinyl on the door panels. No charge for vinyl seats, but no option for leather.

What exactly is Mediocre about the XT5 interior? I get high standards, but I do not believe you have examined one close up. Plus, the article says, there is updates for 2020.

The XT5 refresh is coming soon. I’d bet that’s the interior the XT6 will share. We’ve already seen similarities between the spy shot of the new CT sedans and the XT4.
