Shoot, at these prices might as well step up into the roomier car and get out of the coffin!!!

So happy to see this news today. Gives me hope for new management at Cadillac.
IMO what Cadillac should've done was call the ATS the CTS and the CTS the STS, but what's done is done.

Like I said, at this price the CT5 is worth a serious well-intentioned look, but my opinion is that Cadillac should've continued to improve on the CTS to the point where they were asking the same as the Euros but for a better car. Their old formula was "charge almost as much for a slightly more worse car" now they're going for the "not only are we going to undercut the size comp, we're going to undercut a size down" approach. We'll see how it plays out.

What I'm getting at is that the G3 CTS still had it's shortcomings despite the higher pricetag. The pricetag alone didn't doom it.

It's funny hearing the critics crying over a 25% price cut. And the car is improved to boot with more equipment.

Re: 2020 Cadillac CT5 costs $37,890 to start, more than $10,000 less than CTS

As has been said, this shouldn't surprise anyone. I think I posted a while ago that the stated D competition started around $38k and that the CT5 would likely start somewhere near that figure.

I'm sure very few will opt for a base car. Looking at the full spectrum of pricing, I suspect most people will buy the Premium Luxury and most of those are likely to be AWD. This would put an average price at $50k+ depending on equipment packages and how they're structured. I think Cadillac is hoping this, and the CT4, result in higher volume. They're going to need it with these lower prices and no help from Camaro.(Maybe moving CT6 to LGR would help?)

How does that old joke go?

    " Hi Joe, how's business?"

" It's OK. We lose money on every sale but we make it up in volume."

I think the goal of higher prices is a good one. But it has to be gradual. They pushed away a good chunk of what was a substantial CTS customer base.

I have that original GM card too. With an add-on bonus offered in January, I saved about $4,300 on my ATS!

In the past, I've had a 5th gen Camaro, a CTS sedan and coupe, two 3rd gen Firebird Formulas, a convertible 4th gen Trans Am, a Reatta, a couple of Monte Carlos, an Avenger coupe, a couple of Cavalier hatchbacks, a Saturn SC1, and a Cherokee.

Agreed, they need to take a page from the pickup trucks. Look how Detroit has gradually upped the prices over the past 10+ years. When the Blackwood came out it was to early, people weren't ready for an expensive truck. Now look at the astronomical prices on them, and no one bats an eye. The Germans wish they sold so many vehicles $50k and higher (a lot higher), aren't some pickups tickling with $100k?

I suspect the new Caddies with the aggressive pricing won't have big incentives on the hood (unless it is left over model). If they do end up with big incentives, I think it could be the death of Cadillac.

Ha! The thought crossed my mind, but I don't need more room - 99% of my driving is just me. If I need more room on the weekends we just take out my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'd rather get my CT4 with more options vs. putting money into the CT5 but with less gizmos.

Same here. I'm divorced and live alone. Seldom do I have more than one passenger, so the back seat is rarely used. CT4-V AWD sounds very tempting. 23 months to go on my CTS lease so might work out great.

I think they'll let you "pull ahead" after about 18-19 months.

Probably. And the initial high dealer pricing should be over by then and the incentives and discounting will be in gear.

It's not even the same price as the 3-Series. They undercut it by $3K.

    +1
With this pricing announcement, I'm sure a lot of folks (me included) are eager to read first drive reviews of the CT5. I sincerely hope that GM didn't "dumb down" the chassis and suspension tuning in this car compared to the 3rd gen CTS.
