2020 Cadillac CT5 costs $37,890 to start, more than $10,000 less than CTS

    The Car Connection

Cadillac's latest luxury sedan has a comparatively affordable price. The 2020 Cadillac CT5 will hit dealers with a $37,890 price to start, including mandatory destination charges, which is far less than the CTS that it replaces, which costs $47,990 to start.

The sub-$40,000 cost will put buyers behind the wheel of a CT5 Luxury trim with rear-wheel drive. It's also the first time Cadillac bundle active safety equipment as standard gear on every model. The CT5 comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, and a safety alert seat among other gadgetse we've seen. Other features found with every CT5 are a 10-speed automatic transmission, a driver-selectable drive modes, a next-generation Cadillac infotainment system paired with a 10.0-inch touchscreen, and keyless entry.

Wow, that's a significant price decrease from the current CTS which I always felt was overpriced since the debut of the 3rd Gen. This pricing could put the CT5 on my future consideration list. Sooner or later I'll need to replace our beloved 2009 Pontiac G8 GT. The harsh northeastern winters are beginning to take their toll on it, despite being a capable snow-mobile.

Why is everyone surprised? We have been told ad nauseum that the CT5 is an ATS replacement, not a CTS replacement. This price aligns with that, making the CT5 competitive with the 3, C and A4 as you’d expect. Now for the next surprise- the CT4 will be priced to compete with the A3, 2 and CLA!

What people say, what GM says and what actually comes from GM are all different things.

Seeing GM price this car properly is huge.

This is good news that some people will rip and start the "Cadillac can't be true luxury without raping the consumer" arguments. In a sedan market like this and with Cadillac [still] struggling to gain traction on its rivals, you have to be aggressive with pricing.

But, they need to protect residuals and hold firm on that price and not start laying on incentives.

True, they've said that. But they're launching a CTS-sized car with a significant price reduction.

I wouldn't necessarily say I trashed Cadillac for this, but I must admit this does feel like finding a super sweet Purple label Polo at Marshall's for $29.99. All that said, it's going into the list of things to seriously consider when I buy in the next few months because I'm a fan of the red premlux shown at the debut. They should be able to sell a ton, but I don't think value pricing helps the brand much. Just my .02.

This is what has my attention. I'm really interested in the CT4V and the 2.7L Turbo. With all that torque down low it sounds like a great combination, and if the price is right, I can see myself getting it as my weekend cruiser.

If this car tests well vs. the German competition in the press, it will sell well and then GM can hike the price $1000 for 2021.

Assuming that CT5 inherits the CTS' magical and class leading chassis tuning, CT5 would still be a good value with a $1,000 price hike.

What was the most recent car that they had a starting point of like $29,995 but by the end of the model year it was $1500 higher? I'm wracking my brain to remember but got nothing.

I think the ATS started at $29,995 if I recall correctly. Of course that was with the anemic non turbo four.

I think it was worth a shot to see if Cadillac could command higher prices. Obviously the answer is it could not. I was on board with the price increases, but clearly it failed, these new prices sounds really good - throw in my GM card points of nearly $4k (I have the original card) and I'll be walking out the door a very happy customer! Definitely a new CT4 V with the 2.7 is in my future!
