Tweeners: Life between two worlds for these luxury SUVs
    MotorTrend

    By: Zach Gale

As an immigrant of Mexican descent, I have become accustomed to hearing the phrase, "Ni de aqui, ni de alla. " It means, literally, "Neither here nor there." My friends and cousins often jokingly say that to describe me: I have lived in America for more than a decade, but when I mingle with Americans I'm always seen as the outsider.

That phrase can also apply to our recently tested trio of luxury SUVs. They have a shorter wheelbase and a lower price than the traditional compact European SUVs (such as the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, and Audi Q5), yet they are larger and pricier than their subcompact counterparts (such as the BMW X1, Mercedes GLA, and Audi Q3). Our batch of crossovers lives between two worlds. They are tweeners.

Well just as predicted, XT4 is the slowest car in the test. It needs more power, or at least a more powerful engine option. 237 HP in a car of that size out of a 2.0T is flat out not good enough, sorry.

It's a very nice car, inside and out, but when a Chevy Equinox can dust you, that kinda sucks.

These sukkaz have a rather large turning circle, Infinity is the tightest by two feet. A big margin. When you get used to being able to turn on a dime and get 11 cents change, that circle makes a big difference.
TURNING CIRCLE 38.9 ft 38.0 ft 36.4 ft

OTOH, I'd say Caddy (in order, Acura, Caddy, Eternity) gets kudos for equipping their mo-sheen with the best taars:

    255/45R20 101V (M+S) Goodyear Eagle RS-A 245/45R20 99H (M+S) Continental ProContact TX 235/55R19 101V (M+S) Bridgestone Ecopia H/L 422 Plus RFT

I've had a few cars with RS-A and you can have them. Not sure about the Ecopia but with a name like that I'd expect green traction.

Glad the writer established his immigrant bona fides. I will pay close attention to all his articles from now on!

The word "speshul" should be banned from the English language for five years, or however long it takes for everyone to forget it exists. "Brings something special to this test" is as hackneyed a phrase as exists on Dear Old Mother Earth. When someone uses it, I know they have a limited vocabulary. Speshul, but limited.

I test drove an XT4 last week. Found it to be plenty peppy for normal use. Not sure if others are expecting sub-5 sec 0-60 times or what, but I think it does just fine. Turning circle is adequate, though not extraordinary. Maybe I'm too use to my Volt, but with the radio off I found the car to have a bit too much buzzing from the 2.0T engine. Would like to hear a lot less of it. Shifter is again weird. Reminds me of the XT5's. Why can't we just have a regular PRNDL shifter?!!

After driving an XT4 for a week, it doesn't feel underpowered. I'd gladly trade the 2.0T in my '13 ATS for the XT4 2.0T.

Nor did I feel the interior was loud or cramped, felt spacious to me.

Good for GM for finally wising up and "not able to find" a $50k example, only able to find a more expensive one. Not that the XT4 won, but having the extra bells and whistles help and certainly shades the testers opinion even though they claim to ignore them.

None of these vehicles are performance vehicles, they are cross overs.... people will use them around town and around town they all have hefty torque curves. They will all feel powerful enough around town for that reason.

. Walton, Ayapana, and I all liked the way Cadillac handled its business with an updated version of its once-pilloried CUE system. It behaves like a smartphone and has modern graphics that are sharp and simple to use.
That's a real good sign for Cadillac going forward. The average buyer is more concerned with that than 0 - 60 times.

I dont understand how Infiniti persists with an infotainment system that's bested by a $17000 Hyundai

Same way Cadillac did with the first gen CUE (mind you, I have the first gen CUE and think it is easy to use).

Interesting that the car with the fastest 0-60 came in last in their review. The XT4 got the best scores for braking/handling (figure8 test, 60-0, etc). Many crossovers are pigs to drive, so that’s encouraging...but I’d get one more in the $40K range rather than $56K MSRP ouch!

Acura isn't on the same level as Cadillac or Infiniti. Acura competes with Buick or Lincoln so in reality Cadillac won this competition. Also there is nothing wrong with CUE and there never has been anything wrong with it.

RDX back 1/2 looks very Chevy Trail Blazer like.. not a fan.

Much prefer the XT4 interior, not a fan of the Acura pop screen and giant dial in the middle of the center stack.

Many car makers are moving away from traditional to the joystick shifters. I'm totally used to it, doesn't take long.

THE real choice should be the alfa stelvio ti sport.....

This thing is a blast to own...my wife is a celebrity everywhere she goes...tons of complements....and my lease deal was 1000 DAS and 480 a month...36/10k...

The caddy was too milk toast, the lexus rx350 is everywhere...the acura is ugly...the infiniti qx50 with its cvt drove horribly....the volvo was nice but the it wasnt as passionate to own...gmc lost its cache for the wifey ...and buicks stodgy image turned her off...bmw ..mercedes or audi...oh please everybody has one of these...they are a dime a dozen...

The winner should have been in my opinion the alfa.....oooh this thing is a sports car cuv and a hoot to own...

You are like a celbrity driving this thing...and it handles and accelerates like a champ...

With the 20s, the sports seats, tje ti sport package in brigt Red...

    Tons of room insode too..

Id post a photo but my photos file is too large?

Trust me guys the cars in this automotive press pale in comparision especially if you are a auto enthusiast..
