The current Chevy Silverado debuted in 2007 and is still a favorite with truck buyers. Strong powertrains (we especially like the 6.2-liter, 403-horsepower V8 hooked to the 6AT), great ride and a good-enough interior have kept the Silverado in the running while the other trucks got complete redesigns more recently. Both Ford and Dodge stepped up the game with strong motors, near-luxury interiors and serious strides in ride and fuel economy. EcoBoost? Coil Springs?

But now it's Chevy's turn to be the newest kid on the block. These images prove that Chevy is hard at work on the 2014 Chevy Silverado. The biggest difference we can spot is the new greenhouse. Beyond that, all we have are rumors. GM engineers are apparently unhappy with the look of the current truck, saying that it looks too feminine compared with the other trucks. More chrome and a beefier front end are the rumored fixes.

A less horrible rumor swirling on the new truck is that this new truck will be 500 pounds LIGHTER than the current truck which is already, in 1500 trim, 300 pounds lighter than the other trucks in the scene. Not only will this help with fuel economy, but it'll make the inevitable V6 much more tolerable.

    Images available at link.

I like the "chopped top" look of the greenhouse. Shows they are serious about gas mileage. After that, I can't see enough to make judgement, besides the wheel arches. The squared off arches, though, aren't good for aerodynamics.

Look at that rear wheel arch. Holy crap is it ever huge. I wonder how high the top of the bed is? 5 and half feet?
Research is what I am doing when I don't know what I am doing.

Does anyone know what that red stop sign thingie on the driver door says? I always see it on spied prototypes, but don't know what it says.

Overall it doesn't look all that radically different than the current generation as others have stated it would...

Probably a reminder to engineers to do something before exiting the vehicle, or a warning about the emergency stop button.

    Oh okay. Thanks!

I always thought it was warning the public to stay away!

There are some good things I see about it already. It appears that the crewcab is bigger than the current truck. The back seat in the current crewcab seems tight compared to F150 supercrew. Also it looks like there will be a 6' bed with the 1500 crew, that's a good thing!

They need to give it dual outlet exhaust in the rear like the Ram full-size trucks do.

Can't tell much but the back doors look bigger as the C pillar is slender.

I've seen a few up close.

It says "STOP! CAMOUFLAGE REQUIRED", along with a brief security reminder.

can we all agree, that obviously the camo is there for a reason, so it is going to be extremely hard to percieve what the shape is.... HOWEVER, i love spy shots, always have and always will. Our imaginations run wild with them. They better, BETTER pull out all the stops on this one. Ever since the Cheyenne concept, which i feel they could have better emulated on the current gen, but didnt, lets hope some of that comes through, well at least i hope so.
