Sources tell Ward’s no decision has been made on whether Lordstown staff or workers will go to Korea to understudy production processes at GM Daewoo’s Gunsan plant, however “there will be cooperation.”

With the addition of a third shift at Lordstown, they will be capable of producing more than 30,000 vehicles per month.

The Optra was recently discontinued in Canada which leaves me with this thought: Will this Chevy be built for export?

Is this the same as the Suzuki Forenza?

The idea is to have global recognition for most models. For the start of production, they may be all U.S. built, but probably produced locally for each market. Canada's will likely be exported only.

I think GM is going for a global car like the original J body (OK maybe not so many plants). Optra will basically be the Cobalt...

My thoughts exactly, Chevy Cobalt = Chevy Optra.

I just hope they improve Pontiac's line to cover this move

It would be great to see GM use Pontiac as a sporty like Mazda,Nissan and Scion.

Scion sporty? Huh? I thought Scion was classified as the ultimate in customizable anti-cars, but sporty? Really? Maybe the tC, with a tailwind but the other two are rolling waste bins.

Wait a minute, we just read recently that Lordstown will be building the global Chevy MP7 and the small RWD products.

GM is building the huge new plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to build the global Delta-II.

Reports elsewhere have consistently suggested that GM's new global Delta-II Corolla-fighter (whatever it'll be called) will be manufactured in Mexico, Korea, and Russia, with CKD assembly in other regions.

If GM need more capacity for the car, tool up Moraine, or one of the other facilities scheduled to close, to assemble it.

There's been an awful lot of conflicting reports lately about who's going to be producing which product...

^^^ I agree. Life was simpler when the UAW told us where everything was going to be built.

Of course, with the shift in the value of the dollar, I think we will begin to see a number of export programs brought to the US.

The global Chevrolet/Daewoo MPV will be built at Hamtramck.

The Daewoo/Chevrolet Delta II car will also be made at Lordstown.
Moraine plant is a truck plant and can't make cars , it is not a car plant or Flex plant.

If they're smart, Optra won't be Cobalt with no differentiation. If they're smart, they're going to play up the high tech (and high cost) turbo/direct injection engine, and its stellar fuel economy. And they're going to market the whole car that way. And maybe even give it a few other little features that fit with the efficiency theme. Start with, maybe, interior bits made of recycled stuff. Something like that.

In other words, give the car some other meaning than "cheap" "small" and "less desireable than that more expensive car across the showroom".

Not anymore... The Forenza is based on the outgoing Chevy Optra.

I believe they are talking about the all-new GM-GMDAT Chevy to be built on the GM Delta II platform.

Others are saying this car will "slot in below" the Cobolt

    http://www.leftlanenews.com/chevrole...t-in-2009.html

Speculating, I'll guess the "Optra" will be the cheap volume model while the Cobolt will be a little more upscale to capture midsized customers that are looking for better MPGs.

Hmmm... Cobalt to be Chevy's more upscale/upmarket compact? Will there also be a new 2009/10 Cobalt?
I thought GM was trying to cut down on overlapping models.
