Re: Pipeline Filled? GM Subvents Chevy Blazer Leases

Back in 97 I leased a loaded 2 door Explorer Sport for $0 down $399/month (low mile lease) on a Ford Red Carpet Lease. When these came out mildly refreshed in 1995 I wanted to lease one, with $1875 down it was $675/month so it was a hard no for me, they must have needed to move these along so they rethought residuals somewhat and at the 399 deal they were flying off the lot. My residual was high, so in 2000 when my lease was up I turned it in and leased another (this time a 4 door Explorer). My Ford rep was telling me Ford Credit was sending these to auction (along with many F150's) and taking a 6-7K bath on each one.

Hope GM doesn't get stuck with a glut of overvalued Blazers in a few years.

1998-2000, there was a Monthly Booklet from Adesa Auto Auctions. Just a little booklet, with 150 or so pages of every vehicle it ran the month before.

    Basic Description

    97 Taurus SE, Green, A,T,CR,PW,PL,AC, 108,000 km------------------$8,290
    TRUCKS
    97 F150 XLT 4x4, Reg Cab, Green, A,T,CR,PW,PL,AC, 128,000 km---$13,290
    97 F150 XLT 4x4, Reg Cab, Blue, A,T,CR,PW,PL,AC, 108,000 km-----$13,450

And so on, about 50 vehicle per page, and 150 or so pages, so 7-8000 vehicles.

    Chevy's would fil 4-5 pages, GMC's 1-2 pages, Pontiac's 1/2 page, Alfa's 4-6 lines and so on.

Ford RCL leases would fill 15-20 of those pages. thousands of Off Lease Ford's being sold off after their 24 month Crazy Lease Payments, with Inflated Residuals.

It sold Ford a Pile of Trucks in the late 90's, the 1 saving factor was the Crash of the CDN$$$$ at the time, and the Swarm of CDN Vehicles headed State Side. Lessened the blow.

2008 Credit Crunch, was the Opposite however. I was Terming Leases with Residuals of $27-28000, the next day Ford was offering them to me for $18-19000.

True. And that means the lower trim I would want would be even less than that.

Will these be like Hummer lease residuals? Those cratered in such an epic way that I still think THAT is why the brand died. There were politics, too, but no one in GM really wanted to deal with irate returning Hummer customers who now had to double the payment on their replacement vehicles. For Hummer lessees, those leases were a steal... The deals have a winner and a loser.

Right now, GM has over-priced their new baby and not marketed it well - same old stuff for GM. So sales will be slow until they get in the game properly. If the new NAFTA deal isn't approved, are the tariffs remaining in place on Mexican-built vehicles? Not stirring the pot... I don't know.

Another GM flop. Stealing an iconic name and slapping it on a facelifted Equinox was obviously the brainchild of some millenial wunderkid. Not a Car Guy. They’ve all been fired.

The Blazer is not a facelifted Equinox, and they are actually selling a few now, not sure 4,000/month was their goal, but that is where they are at.

Chevy needed something smaller than the Traverse, but bigger than the Equinox, but I'm not a fan of the styling (wife still thinks she likes it).

    Priced right; maybe...............

They do need an Edge sized CUV, but the Dodge Journey, had that market Wrapped Up on Price. Until people owned 1 of them, most traded them before the warranty was done.
