The next-generation Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon will enter production in early 2022, reports by Autoline Daily, citing analyst firm Auto Forecast Solutions. Autoline points out that the two mechanically identical midsize trucks have maintained a steady sales pace since their debut, with 2017 sales once again projected to be in excess of 100,000 units.

hoping for a major refresh. 2022 makes sense as to give the next gen full sized trucks time to roll out.

Seems like a long way away for these trucks! They are two years old already, that will make them 7 years old?! Seems like a long time to react also to Ford's new Ranger that will likely leapfrog the C/C twins when it debuts...

This is a fairly long design cycle (10 years). Considering the Platform launched in 2012 in Thailand and Australia. Though the North American version does have a number of design changes.

The Ranger and the Jeep Pickup are both expected in 2019. 2022 doesn't sound crazy when you think about how long the S-10s, Dakotas and old Rangers stayed relatively unchanged back in the day, but GM will be under some pressure to deliver on the this because consumers will certainly have more choices.

What makes you think the Ranger will leap frog it? Seems to me that Ford is the one playing catch up here.

That will give them the opportunity to see how Ford & Jeep bring something extra that the current trucks don't have. Then, they can evaluate a way to add that before everything is set in stone.

Keep updating them in between now and then.

Had a chance to drive the ZR2 and it was pretty cool.

I don't think the Ranger will necessary compete directly if what I understand to be true. If the Ranger is a Unibody then it will compete more directly with the Honda....thing. I am not saying they wont get cross shopped to some extent but if you looking to tow with a midsize pickup then your not buying a Unibody. It will be Toyota or GM maybe the Jeep pickup. They could sell more of these if they would increase the order options. Make the Duramax available in lower trim levels, regular cab, manual tranny. The ZR2 was well done, I was worried it would be another badge engineered option. I was pleasantly surprised, it has a ton of content.

That's what I say, it seems like a long cycle but with updates along the way it wouldn't be bad. Just don't pull a Verano like stunt with them and do nothing.

What rock have you been hiding under? The next Ranger is a mildly updated version of the global T6 Ranger, no uni-body.

Bingo - much as the C/C twins are North Americanized versions of a global truck. And don't expect any fancy leap-frogging, either. These are regular-tech, low-cost machines.
