New Vette: Do You Know What The One Reused Part Is?

    Torque News
    July 22, 2019

The new Chevrolet Corvette C8 shares just ONE SINGLE PART with the 2019 C7 Corvette.

What is it? (Answer in next post).

Re: New Vette: Do You Know What The One Reused Part Is?

We've now had 8 different generations of Corvette throughout the years. Each new generation is typically an evolution of the previous generation and usually builds on the previous generations strengths while attempting to eliminate it's weaknesses. With this thought process in mind, it's common practice that when taking the strengths from previous generations that would typically mean borrowing parts. While this is a good idea in theory most people don't like it because it seems "cheap".

The History Of Part Sharing With The Corvette Lineup

The 7th generation of Corvette was the first time that GM took almost nothing from the previous generation and attempted to build a car with a much improved interior. They succeeded at this by, for the first time, building it from scratch. Even though they started from scratch they still ended up using a few parts here and there from the 6th generation Corvette but it was a huge improvement over the way GM had done it in the past.

With the 8th generation of Corvette we have now gotten confirmation from GM that they only used one single part from the 7th generation Corvette. Everything is brand new built from scratch except for the door latch. The part that no one ever sees nor would ever care about is the only thing to be shared between generations for this all new C8 Corvette.

I'm sure someone will bitch about that and write off the entire car for that.

Should have been the lower door panels!

They're bound to have screwed those up.

Might be parts bin and not used on the C7.

Bottom line is the C8 rocks and when factoring in the price? OMG.

Without reading Post #2, I'd say the shift knob on the manual shift.

There is no manual shift, or number 6.

That was my initial guess too judging by the pics seen before the reveal.

Regardless, I still can't believe all of the positive chatter about this car no matter what site/forum you visit on the web. Even Porsche and Ferrari fan sites only complaint is they wish it had a delete option for the Corvette badge in the front and lettering on the rear but the Stingray on the top of the trunk can stay.

    Complaining about a badge, really?

Sounds like the people that like Chevys but take the bowtie off so that noone else knows they drive a Chevy.
"The car's brilliant and ... a great surprise, pleasant surprise for all Corvette lovers everywhere ... a huge shock to our competitors ... because I don't think anybody was expecting something that good. What pleases me the most about it was that ... I can say this is the first car that's come out, that was done since I left.

I am amazed they hit their cost targets with that approach. Things like HVAC blower motors aren't differentiators. C'est la Vie!
