You are onto something, 'Trail Cruiser' would be a perfect brand name.. GMC Jimmy Trail Cruiser

Well of course I'd take the Sonic...but to be fair the TB has AWD, the new 3cyl engines/trannies, new safety tech, etc etc, for just a bit more. No question the Sonic would have to be updated with that stuff to be fully competitive.
Current ride: 2015 Chevy Sonic 1.8L 5sp manual sedan

Next ride, pre-pandemic: Maybe a 2021 2.0T CT4, weekend car, keep the Sonic as DD
Next ride, post-pandemic: Keep driving the Sonic!

I got to check one of these out at the dealer a couple of weekends ago. A FWD Activ model. It was unlocked in front of the place next to a Trax which was unlocked as well, like they were wanting looky-lu's to compare them. I came away fairly impressed with it vs. the Trax. It seemed solid and put together pretty good also and was comfortable sitting in it as well. I'd still like to drive one some day just to see about that though.
