DETROIT – A version of the all-new Colorado midsize pickup will be built and sold in the United States, Chevrolet confirmed today. The first version of the truck is launching this month in Thailand, to be followed by other regions around the globe.

“The new Chevrolet Colorado is generating a lot of excitement as we begin its launch in Thailand,” said Chris Perry, vice president, global marketing and strategy for Chevrolet. “We think the design, capability and fuel efficiency of the new Colorado will make it attractive to U.S. customers.”

Product details, timing, pricing and the production location will be announced later. The current-generation Colorado will be produced in Shreveport, La., through the 2012 model year.

The all new Colorado will be built in a plant other than Shreveport.

    You gotta love politics.

GM has a plant set up to build midsize/small trucks and a trained workforce, yet they add on to another plant/remodel, and retrain other workers. Also adding $$$ to bottom line expenses where one of the biggest failures of the previous generation mid size trucks was inability to separate itself MSRP wise from full size trucks.

    Fail.

The confirmation is news. But not much new here. The lastest union contract already stated that these trucks will be built at Wentzville, MO.

Shreveport was spun off in the bankruptcy and belongs to Motors Liquidation, not General Motors Company. Or that's how its been told here previously.

Great news. I think there is still a market for these trucks, and GM will increase their market share just due to the lack of competition. With both Chrysler and Ford out of the game, Chevy will be the only US automaker in the game. I just hope they keep it updated and competitive with the Tacoma.
    Get used to more.

Thumbs up Re: Pickup Confirmed for U.S.

I think this is great news. Not all truck buyers need or want a full-sized pickup to be their daily driver and do weekend chores.

So GM will have to purchase it? What is the relationship between the two companies?

I think so, but doesn't seem like they would want to. Here's what I was remembering:

Is there an estimate as to when we will get the new truck?

It can't get here soon enough.

With Ranger going away, it'll probably pick up more than a few fleet sales from Ford.

Since Shreveport is scheduled to build out the 2012MY, could be 2013MY for the new truck. That's if there's no planned or scheduled product lapse for the market.
