MORE WHERE IT MATTERS: 2020 SILVERADO 1500
    2019-05-22
    GM MEDIA

DETROIT — For 2020, Chevrolet makes the strongest, most advanced Silverado even more so with several new features that include the new 10-speed automatic transmission paired with the 5.3L V-8 standard on the LT Trail Boss and available on the High Country; the legendary 6.2L V-8 offered on Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss and RST trims; and available technologies including new trailering features and Adaptive Cruise Control – Camera1.

“In today’s truck market, customers continually demand more features, more technology and more capability,” said Tim Herrick, executive chief engineer of Full-Size Trucks. “For 2020, we are delivering more in each of these areas. As a result, the Silverado now offers customers the most towing capability of any light-duty pickup and the most affordable light-duty truck with more than 400 horsepower.”

New 6.2L V-8 availability for Trail Boss, RST models

For 2020, more than half of Silverado trim levels will be available with the 6.2L V-8 with an SAE-certified 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

For the Custom Trail Boss and the LT Trail Boss, that power is paired with a 2-inch factory suspension lift and the Z71 Off Road Package with a locking rear differential, skid plates, Rancho® mono-tube off-road shocks, 18-inch wheels and Goodyear Duratrac off-road tires. The Custom Trail Boss with the 6.2L V-8 starts at $43,865, making it the most affordable light-duty truck with more than 400 horsepower on the market.

“The Trail Boss models are already some of the most popular in the Silverado franchise,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing. “Adding the available 6.2L V-8 will ratchet that excitement up even further. Starting under $44,000 for the Custom Trail Boss, Chevrolet offers enthusiasts an affordable truck with serious performance on and off road.”

Also new for 2020, the 6.2L V-8 is available on Silverado RST models equipped with four-wheel drive. As a result, the maximum towing capacity of the Silverado is increased to a class-leading 13,400 pounds when properly equipped.

Some welcome changes. However, I never thought they should increase 6.2 availability in lower trims, instead leaving it as the premium engine offering in high trims. From all I've read on these new trucks many will be pleased with this though.

That Custom Trail Boss is finally calling my name.

Getting the 10 speed into more trucks is very welcome as well.

GM is listening. Giving the adaptive cruise control to the trucks was an absolute no brainer. Why do they wait a year for this stuff?

6.2 on the TRAILBOSS AND RST, plus 10 speed!!! Happy times are here!!!!!! This is going to make for a tough decision between the 6.2 or the diesel for me.

Nice improvements. Having the 6.2L available in the Trail Boss just made my next purchase decision harder. Trailboss or AT4? Can you get the Trailboss with the HUD? I don't think so.

Interesting that the Silverado is now the cheapest truck with a 400+ HP engine. That's going to shut a lot of people up.

Why does Ford and Ram limit their top engine to only their top trims?

I only wish for an option for the larger tank and it would have been a grand slam update honestly. All the things we've been moaning about are happening now. Glad GM can see someflexibility on a vehicle that sells in the 40k region a month.

Ram doesn't. You can get the 5.7 hemi and eTorque in a Tradesmen. It's $38,635 for a measly 395 HP and 410 TQ though.

It would be hilarious to see Ram squeeze an extra 5 HP out of the 5.7 and make the dumbass cheapest 400+HP claim pointless (because we all know it is anyways).

Good on GM to listen. The problem for me is I’m used to all these creature comforts I got to get the 6.2 and I’d have a hard time downgrading.

Daaammmmnnnn... at least someone at GM might be listening. Hopefully 2021 sees some interior updates. Too bad the 6.2 is a no-go for me at all still requiring 93 octane, that's non-existent here. But I can get 100 or 110 Sunoco at the pump oddly enough.

See everyone. This is why it's great that Ram is making a better product and gaining in market share. It forces the competition to keep on their toes. I can bet none of this would have come about if it weren't for their declining numbers.

Anxious to see if Ram has a response to this in the works... Ford too.
