Mid-Engine Chevrolet Corvette Reveal to be Livestreamed Globally 7/18/19 7:50pm PDT

MID-ENGINE CHEVROLET CORVETTE REVEAL TO BE LIVESTREAMED GLOBALLY
    Chevrolet
    July 8, 2019

Following the reveal, the Next Generation Chevrolet Corvette will embark on two nationwide dealership tours

DETROIT — The late Zora Arkus-Duntov, the father of the Chevrolet Corvette, had a vision for a mid-engine Corvette. That vision will come to life the evening of July 18, 2019, in Orange County, California, and the world can watch the reveal via livestream from the comfort of their own homes.

The livestream opens at 7:30 p.m. PDT/10:30 p.m. EDT on July 18 and can be accessed through media.chevrolet.com/nextgenCorvette, which also will be sent out on Chevrolet’s social media channels. The stream will include Corvette video footage, a hosted preshow and the reveal presentation. It will be available for viewing across the globe, in all seven continents.

“There is a large contingent of Corvette fans across the world waiting for the reveal of the Next Generation. We’re happy to give these fans, and all sports car enthusiasts, a way to see and learn about the vehicle at the same time as those participating live in California,” said Barry Engle, executive vice president and president, the Americas, GM. “Viewers will hear directly from Chevrolet leadership, engineering and some special guests about the highlights and background of this first mid-engine Corvette.”

Following the reveal, the Next Generation Corvette will hit the road for two national dealership tours that will include vehicle specialists and numerous interactive displays. At these events, Chevy dealers will host customers to showcase the new mid-engine supercar, display customizable parts (seats, wheels, accessories, etc.) and teach people how they can personalize their own Corvette.

“With all the excitement around this vehicle, we don’t want people to have to wait to experience it in person,” said Engle. “Our national tours will bring the Next Generation car right to our customers’ local Chevrolet dealership, where they can start imagining themselves in their very own personalized mid-engine Corvette.”

The tours will begin on the East and West Coasts and stop at more than 125 select dealerships across the U.S. starting after the reveal and extending through early 2020. Tour dates and cities will be available starting on July 19.

Is anyone else surprised and maybe a little concerned that only recently there were stories about the C8 being too powerful and twisting its frame, and now just a short time later the car is apparently ready to launch?

Nope, rumours about the C8 were all over the map. Remember the "starting at 150K" rumour? GM seems to have successfully kept a lid on this. All we do know for sure is they have hired quite a few people for the BG plant. Even the rumour the base engine being a LT2 could be wrong. 7/18/19 is the date we will know facts for sure.

True. I almost find myself a little disappointed that it won't be >$100K. At that time, the C8 was supposed to be the high-end Corvette with the C7 still being kept around. And I think with some updates the C7, which I like a lot, could have been viable for a while yet. Six model years is actually something of a short run for a Corvette.

With the Corvette going mid-engine and getting somewhat more expensive, I'd hope that would leave room in the lineup for a 7th gen Camaro, with its front engine layout and lower price. Doesn't look promising though.

Dealers are starting to send out emails inviting owners to see the C8.

Also, after this I think its time for a new site logo. Everything is out of production.

Ummm....the internet is global so this really isn't that big of news is it? Are they trying to say the Corvette will be a global car?

Tell Chicken Little that the Corvette doesn't have a frame anymore. If the engine was that strong, the car itself would be in 2 pieces. But, that would be one hell of a recall if GM sold them that way.

    A) It's still a longer run than the Mid-year 'Vettes ('63-'67).
    B) Since the Corvette will be going mid-engined, this would be the smart play in order to have something for buyers of sporty cars. We know that the Challenger won't get a convertible model & won't look like it currently does if it ever sees a redesign. Since they like to steal from their own playbook, the 7th gen could call back to the second gen design. New (but familiar) styling, a little more room than the 6th gen, & watch the pricing people!

Sure, just fire off a PM to Vertical Scope. I'm sure they'll have a new logo up 24 hours after the introduction.

I think that's just to say that since it's on a website that can be accessed globally, anybody can see the C8's official introduction.

If there is a 7th gen Camaro and it has to borrow from the past (which I think is totally unnecessary), I'd rather see them take inspiration from the 3rd generation. And besides the styling and the additional rear seat room, the hatchback would be a nice thing to bring back. It really made the car easy to live with.

I just think the second gen styling would resonate better with potential buyers.

Also, I came across this video & it seems appropriate.

I'd love to see a modernized 3rd/4th gen. Tired of the neo-retro fad.

Ditto on that part, but for me I'd like to see the second or the fourth gen. remade as a new one.
