    General Motors Corporation
    August 25, 2020

Fun article. The comment about heaters struck home.

I worked at a small town family owned Chevy dealer back in the mid 80's. The founder's son (founded in 1931) was one of the principals along with a non-family member who brought needed cash for a new facility in the 70's.

The owner talked about his first "real" job at his Dad's dealership when he was a teenager. Prior to that all he was allowed to do was clean cars. He was finally given the responsibility of installing the heaters that customers chose. They stocked 3-4 brands of heaters and everyone had their preferences. Even the cars didn't come with heaters until later in the 50's

When I was shown their original building I commented that it looked like the showroom only held one vehicle. His reply? Duh. "We only had one car, a Chevrolet. We didn't need to show pickups, if someone needed one they just came in and bought it. Then told us what heater they wanted."

Much different times. I felt lucky to get to experience a taste of the old days. Now the city has engulfed that small town and the dealership was swallowed by one of the Megas.
