Last Chevy Cruze Built Bought By Owner Of Fiat-Chrysler Dealership

We're happy it will be treated like a star.

In March this year, General Motors pulled the plug of the Chevrolet Cruze. The economy car fell victim of the booming SUV and crossover segment, which also annihilated models like the Ford Taurus, soon to be joined by the Fusion. It’s sad to see such models leaving the industry, but at least now we know the last produced Cruze will be treated like a star. Because it deserves it.

According to a new report by WKBN, brought to our attention by GM Authority, the very last Cruze, a while LS sedan, was purchased by John Kufleitner, the owner of a Fiat-Chrysler dealership in Columbiana, Ohio. While the vehicle is currently sitting on his dealer lot, it will soon join his collection of classic and significant cars for the industry in Salem.

Nice to see it's going to live a nice life in a collection.

Too bad about the good employees at Lordstown. They deserve better. Not to hijack the thread, but the Blazer or Encore or any imported car should be built there...

I think GM thought they can do no real upgrade to the Cruze and still sell enough to keep that Factory open. That minor refresh they attempted was an utter joke. Lets all be honest, the Cruze is so lackluster in almost every single way in todays Compact sedan segment. When the Blazer decision was made to be built in Mexico, the Cruze was selling at a decent clip. It would have been impossible to shift the Blazer to Lordstown. They retooled the Mexico plant for the Blazer so were they just to scrap that investment and then pay out even more to retool the Lordton plant? It wasn't going to happen. The Blazer wouldn't do enough volume anyways to sustain the Lordstown plant.
The Lordstown Plant is too big. That plant needs a 200K Model or multiple Models to keep the Workers there Full time.
I feel horribly for the citizens of Lordtown, OH. This is what happens when GM Beancounters won't allow GM to put out the best car in each segment.

Actually, they should have built the Equinox there along with the Cruze to ride out the waves in the market. Way too obvious for GM to consider it, I guess.

THAT is what their Japanese competitors would have done.

Re: Last Chevy Cruze Built Bought By Owner Of Fiat-Chrysler Dealership

Having the last model be an LS trim sort of sums up GM's inability to realize any press is good press and build a Premier for the last hurrah so it doesn't look cheap and rental car grade.

Hard to believe a model selling 250K+ units in the prior generation just three years ago gets the current generation's new hatchback model production sent to Mexico where sedans also started getting built too and now they won't be produced anywhere. I don't believe for a minute that a worthy follow-up to the first generation couldn't have continued to sell over 200K units and been handled all in Lordstown. All the foreign makes seem to be able to build Cruze competitors and sell a lot of them.
    Current Driveway Fleet:
    2017 Chevrolet Trax Premier
    2016 Malibu Hybrid
    2013 Sonic LTZ HB
2003 Porsche Boxster S (sunny days and track events)
April 2008 to August 2017 - 2008 Colorado CrewCab Z71 RWD. 81K miles and 21.2 mpg with a great truck
May 2014 to June 2016 - Cruze Diesel - 36.8 mpg over 33K miles with best tank of 50.2 mpg
April 2012 to May 2014 - Chevy Volt - 3 tanks of gas in 12.2K miles.

Shame on you GM, proving once again that they can't quite get it right. The first one was a decent car and this one, meh, not so much. It was their own damned fault too.

If I were a Fiat-Chrysler dealer I'd be saving my money.

So foolish. Redesigned, defeat switch for stop/start and Run Away Mary couldn't even give it a year to see how it sold.
Better ads would have helped as well

Having owned a gen1 and now gen2 I can tell you the gen2 improved upon the gen1 is alot of significant ways. Almost every part of the gen2 is better than the gen1. Styling is subjective but I do like the gen1 in every color it was offered. The gen2 only looks nice in certain colors (baby blue aint one of them).

Anyhow, where GM really screwed up is in the package/pricing. The gen2 was not competitive with the competition at all. You had to get a premier if you wanted a sunroof and blind spot mirrors............really? WTF....... They actually took a stab at fixing the packaging with the 2019 but it was too late.

How do you go from 250k to 180k in 2 years? Try to sell them a "big data" devised packaging scheme that drives maximum price vs customer needs and desires.

They are running the same stupid playbook on the Blazer and other new entries. Packaging from GM is terrible these days without huge rebates.

when the MK I cruze came out it WAS THE BEST COMPACT BAR NONE

pricing was on point it had top of class fuel economy / handling / and 10 airbags the best in class

the MK II came out into a DIFFERENT market - one where Toyota OFFERS the in demand electronic "drivers suite" on ALL models and Honda is "back in the game" with sporty and tech

as for looks I felt the MK I was a "small big car" and the MK II is a asian compact

the MK I could be scaled up and make a good Malibu the MK II would NOT look good as a mid size/large car

Chevy seems to think all these customers, like me and like your daughter, will immediately buy a Trax instead. They’re wrong.
