Why have Sonic around if the Spark is ALMOST the same size. If you need a car with a small footprint and Great Mileage, Just get the spark.

Sonic is much more refined and drives like a far more expensive car than it is. It's a bit of a revelation for its class. Spark, meanwhile, is a cheap car through and through.

But indeed, the sizes are very similar and I suspect the most miserly of consumers who shop at this level will go for the cheapest thing on the lot -- the Spark.

Hey GM, I have an idea for ya, why don't you hang onto the Sonic for one more year. It's looks like your fabulous Korean production of the Spark, Trax, and Encore is blowing up in your face. Might be BK as soon as 4/20! Shouldn't you have some sort of smaller vehicle to sell later this year once the strikes and unrest really get rolling??

Modest updates could have kept it relevant, a higher-power sport version to tackle the Fiesta ST and some sort of high-MPG version (hybrid/diesel/etc.). Sales spiked every time they offered significant discounts, meaning people would get one over a Fiesta or Versa or Fit if the price was right.

But my question is, what happens to the Orion factory? Do they transfer Encore/Trax production there from Korea? Some new EV maybe?

I second your concerns for Orion, BUT differ on performance variants keeping it afloat. Chevy has too many mouths too feed. CRUZE needs to battle Focus. Period. Why can't we have Cruze variants to do that?

And, Malibu is going to need to step up, big time, along the same lines. Fusion is killing it with those Titanium versions. Where is the competitive response?

I actually think they should keep Impala as a lower-volume, large car alternative, but SUVs are being used by everyone. Maybe I am being sentimental on that. Reality is what's driving this.

It's refreshing to not HAVE to build thousands of vehicles that the public doesn't want because of government regulations for a change.

And, yes, I spent a lot of time at Lordstown, back in the days when Cruze was launching. Keep that product relevant, and you can keep America on the right path. (not a total MAGA opinion)

Those are great people. GM needs to make some decisions, and that's what what I would do.

If the Impala is dropped, could it be replaced with a specificity performance sedan?

A quasi successor to the SS.

    Chevelle?

That would be a great idea but it would require Mary to do something bold.
Apparently putting mutant catfish grills on their vehicles is her definition of bold.

I'm hoping/wishing for the same but recognize it's highly unlikely.

Wouldn't it be cool if GM returned to the old process where they offered one Chevy RWD model with many variants? Sedan, coupe, convertible and wagon all off the same platform yet using the same model name. Over time total sales would likely be strong enough to be worthy the initial investment.

Make Impala Rear wheel drive and or maybe a Sportback version ? A cheaper version of Omega or a stretched Camaro chassis? This car can replace the SS. Have a Impala with the 3.6 and a Impala SS with the 6.2 V8 ?

The 2019 Sonic Order Guide is now available, confirming that it will indeed be produced. Also, the 1.4T is now standard on all models...cool! I really like my 1.8L, but a 2019 1.4T manual-tranny LS Sonic sedan is probably my next car. (Unless I bump up to an LT hatch, not sure.) They're sticking with the previous gen 1.4T...but for a cheap LS I'm happy. I'm just glad that it's in production...so let me say thank you to Chevy for making this decision!

20% off MSRP is back (2018 Sonic/Spark/Impala). Now if only GM Card would send me a good bumpup offer...

The 2019s come with the 1.4T across the board, but for the right price a 2018 could be interesting...

Re: GM to end production of Chevrolet Sonic, report says

Another prediction from GM Authority that the Sonic will soon be gone. They were wrong for 2019, but they might be right for 2020. Chevy needs something small and fuel efficient, but even I don't think they need both the Spark and Sonic in the US. I'd drop the Spark of course! There's also an opportunity with both Fiesta and Focus going bye-bye in the US.

My two local Chevy dealers have one Sonic between them. One. Not going to sell many Sonics that way...
