Spinning off Vette should only happen when a 2nd model is introduced, it may have been perfect to roll out the C8 concurrent w/ the C7 and start the Vette brand there, but...
I believe SRT was to be like AMG is to MERC and most models would have a SRT version including the "track hawk" jeeps

where as the "vette brand" would be like buick having its OWN products and NOT "hot rod" version of MAIN LINE brands products

now the vette is mid engined it is harder to make front engined sister cars but maybe a NEW FIERO could be in the works as an "entry" model

also will the rest of the line up be composite bodies OR steel bodied?

The whole idea is stupid IMO. Where is this Corvette "brand" going to be sold? In a corner of the Chevy dealership?

I'd have preferred a Corvette brand with a front engined Vette, and a rear engined Vette, if we're going to talk hypothetical brands.
Agreed, those two should stay under Chevrolet as Chevy should be entitled to at least one sports car, but Corvette...C7 Grand Tourer, and C8 Supercar are definitely too premium to be sold alongside Sonics, and Cruzes...they should be spun off into a niche premium brand sold within the Cadillac network. Seeing what transpired w/ the C8s pricing, GM should be able to figure out how to put out a SBC powered CUV undercutting the Cayenne significantly to go along w/ the C8.

Yeah the Chevy dealers are going to go for that idea.

Re: A Corvette 'brand' may be the next 'Vette news, complete with an SUV

Most logical guess for how such a brand would be sold? The brand will be given to Caddy dealers to fill in the gaps left by the demise of high performance Cadillac models. Cadillac will become a luxury brand consisting almost entirely if not entirely of crossovers and Escalade. Chevy will become trucks and crossover, and Corvette will be GM high performance exclusively.

Why do you think after years of mid engine Caddy rumors there are none now that the platform to get that done actually exists?

Why do you think there are no rumors of a next gen Camaro in development at this stage?

This is the 718 Boxster/Cayman of the Corvette brand, and that is hardly a far fetched idea as Tadge admitted that car was the benchmark for the new Stingray. Higher end versions will be the 911 analog. Throw in a largish sedan and largish crossover and you are one compact suv away from being an American Porsche clone.

I would argue that the writing is on the wall.

What? Chevrolet cars of the Lutz's era were trash and ugly (inside and out) and lowest quality in industry.

Maybe not, but GM is hurting on high end sales, they need to do something to shake things up.

I really don't think Chevy will miss the Corvette all that much, how many Corvettes do you think each dealer sells per year? It's not a volume model by no means...it may create foot traffic but you know what also creates foot traffic? Not overpricing your mainstream offerings, not building your all new volume pickup w/ an interior worse than the model it replaced.

Corvette is GM's Porsche 911...its Icon, it should be allowed to be everything Porsche is. At one point in the not too distant past, all Porsche was was the 911...look at where it is now.

Re: A Corvette 'brand' may be the next 'Vette news, complete with an SUV

General Motors intends to leverage the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette for even greater profit than a midengine Stingray might generate on its own. The corporation is planning a new Corvette brand that will eventually include a sedan and an SUV or crossover, according to GM insiders. It will also create its second Corvette-based Cadillac sports car.

Executives at the C8 reveal in Tustin, California, including GM president Mark Reuss and Jim Campbell, vice-president of performance vehicles and motorsports, wouldn’t address either plan. But the executives did not explicitly deny them, either.

"I can't say anything one way or the other," said Campbell.

"Probably not going to see that," said Reuss.
Taken from the article. Those "GMInsiders" are the ones running amok over here IMO.

I don't know. A pending Corvette brand would explain a lot of things occurring within GM right now. It may not be the case, but all the pieces fit.

It would explain Alpha II not really happening as planned
It would explain why there doesn’t appear to be a long term future for performance sedans at Caddy or Camaro at Chevy
It would explain the hard shift toward fwd-based crossovers after years of peddling performance at Cadillac

The one problem is where is the platform to build a Corvette Panamera and a Corvette Cayenne? Unless, of course, that platform is Omega....which would work.

Can the C7s platform be stretched/Lifted any?

I honestly have no idea. But, I would be less surprised to see a new platform or something like an updated Omega platform than C7. Omega should easily make for very competitive alternatives to Panamera and Cayenne.

In that case they're Cadillac's anyway.

I bought one of those - the Maxx hatchback version - for my daughters to use in college. They went around telling all their friends it was a rental car lol.
