Earlier this week Ward's Auto inadvertently reported that the Chevrolet Cruze compact car would be getting a manual transmission. After some corrections they settled on the Cruze LTZ getting the manual in addition to the already-announced ECO manual. GMI has independently confirmed that any Cruze model with the 1.4-liter engine will have an available manual transmission.
According to GMI sources manual equipped Cruze models are occasionally rolling down the line in Lordstown, OH now for testing purposes. Production of manual Cruze's is slated to begin in mid-December or January, so don't expect to see any on dealer lots until closer to spring 2011.
Sources also added that General Motors' will continue its current trend of having minimal manual options in front-wheel drive vehicles. Outside of the Buick Regal and possibly the upcoming Buick Verano, do not expect any other upcoming front-wheel drive GM sedans to be sporting a stick. Yes, that includes the next-generation Chevrolet Malibu.
