Confirmed: Cruze 1.4T Models Getting Manual Transmission
GMI confirms all 1.4T equipped Cruze models will have a manual.

Earlier this week Ward's Auto inadvertently reported that the Chevrolet Cruze compact car would be getting a manual transmission. After some corrections they settled on the Cruze LTZ getting the manual in addition to the already-announced ECO manual. GMI has independently confirmed that any Cruze model with the 1.4-liter engine will have an available manual transmission.

According to GMI sources manual equipped Cruze models are occasionally rolling down the line in Lordstown, OH now for testing purposes. Production of manual Cruze's is slated to begin in mid-December or January, so don't expect to see any on dealer lots until closer to spring 2011.

Sources also added that General Motors' will continue its current trend of having minimal manual options in front-wheel drive vehicles. Outside of the Buick Regal and possibly the upcoming Buick Verano, do not expect any other upcoming front-wheel drive GM sedans to be sporting a stick. Yes, that includes the next-generation Chevrolet Malibu.

While I'm glad to hear that the 1.4T will get a stick, this statement makes me sad. I was kind of hoping that the NG Malibu would get a stick in some fashion, especially now that Saab and Pontiac are no longer part of the GM's lineup.

Sad business. While I love the Regal, I can't afford one right now. I had hoped that GM would produce a more affordable mid-sizer with a stick shift in the NG Malibu. So much for that!

Very good news. Yes, there is a minimal audience for the manual. Those consumers also buy crossovers, trucks and other cars. If they are a Honda customer they may never enter the showfloor and may not see how nice that Equinox really is and just buy the
    CR-V.

I'd choose the manual for me.

As far as Malibu, I've had 2 people ask for a stick in the years that it has been out.

Man you guys that are always clamoring for a stick can come up with some silly reasons not to buy once GM does produce.

All good news, but I'm still dreaming of a Cruze hatchback with the 2.0L turbo and a manual. With the Focus ST coming and the Mazdaspeed3 and WRX proving that there is in fact a market for this kind of car, how can GM not build a competitor? All the parts are there! Just do it!

GM might as well come right out and say "if you want a stick please buy a Honda Accord"..... because Honda will ALWAYS offer a stick in the Accord. And they sell well.

Bittersweet news for me...I would have a Cruze 2LT on order if it was available now with a manual. Drove a Cruze twice, and found it to be a very nice car, but I really wanted the turbo with a manual. I was willing to do an Eco, but as of last week my dealer still couldn't order one. So instead I settled for a heavily incentivized '10 Cobalt SS, which I pick up tomorrow.

Wow great news nsap! Good job Chevy! They finally listened to reason. Not surprised about the upcoming Malibu not getting a stick, so it goes.

I find it sad that some people wish for GM to fail and can't comprehend any good news. A plausible explanation for this kind of behavior is that you have a miserable life so you wish the same to others. Cory Pham, Autoblog Poster

Good. Now you can get the Cruze LT and LTZ/RS with a stick.

Can we please stop complaining now?

Well, at the very least, you will have an excellent performer compared to the Cruze and every other compact out there!

Yes we can! LT/RS or LTZ/RS with a manual will now be high on my list to be my next commuter vehicle! Show me the Verano with a similar package and I'm there!

Hmmmm, Cruze 1LT, Red Metallic w/ red/black interior, RS and Connectivity packages and a stick as a commuter car? I just might.

Re: Confirmed: Cruze 1.4T Models Getting Manual Transmission

Offering a stick is a waste of time. The dealers refuse to order sticks on anything unless it's a Vette or Camaro. Most people in this forum would like a stick and that's because they love to drive. US customers demand automatics and no Chevy dealer is going to let a stick rot on his lot and eat floor plan money.

BTW, what if they gave a twin turbo?
