Chevrolet Volt did not fail -- not in this ZIP Code

Chevrolet Volt did not fail - not in this ZIP Code
Market for "all-electric future" cracked by the Volt, providing GM with access to a crucial demographic
    https://www.forbes.com/

The Volt may be dead but during its short life the pioneering EV succeeded in ZIP codes that had all but banished the Chevrolet brand.
Eight years ago, two upscale areas that I know well in Los Angeles were pretty much solid German and Japanese brand enclaves. Places GM brands had been ousted from years ago.

But four years ago this began to change. Slowly. Some of those car owners traded in their foreign nameplate for the Tesla Model S, some for -- perish the thought -- a Chevy.

The Volt was that good. Designed and engineered in the throes of GM's financial meltdown in 2008 - 2010 by a team led by industry veteran Bob Lutz, GM produced a miracle of sorts. It was well-conceived, well-made and reliable.
In the neighborhood where I live, there has been a surge in Model 3 ownership, despite coming with a $45,000 - $65,000 price tag. I've really never seen anything like it -- except for maybe the initial burst of consumer enthusiasm for the Prius.

That's a problem for General Motors and all-electric vehicles like the Chevy Bolt. I donít think Detroit-based GM executives really understand the California market ó where the company has been crushed by Japanese brands. I'm sure GM executives will profess that they do, but they donít (market share proves that).

If you have some idea about the zip code you may try to look in the official database https://worldpostalcode.com/united-states/texas/austin. It is also possible to find local communities and forums and ask there. No doubt, they know the information you are looking for. Or at least, it would be much easier for them to investigate and get it. Also, you may try to find some official fan groups, etc.

zerozerozero Volts. GM needs a Mulally Makeover, I don't think there's another way. Top tiers need a Soviet-style purge (only instead of enemies, purge the incompetents), the PR Department should be swept into the Detroit River and start over because they're incapable of doing anything right.

It boggles the mind how many levels decisions have to go through, I’m sure that there’s a lot of shinyass middle men justifying their positions right about now...

I'll second the motion to purge...

I sometimes wonder if there's even a need for that justification, just because of the agendas and mindset of the top corporate and this probably sliding under the radar most likely because of grander pursuits. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I also find it interesting that someone who seldom posts has resurrected several threads here today.

'Tis the nature of bureaucracies. That's how whippersnapper upstarts like Honda and Toyoter whupped up on the Good Old Boyz in the '70s and '80s and '90s. Small, innovative, just a couple of layers to go through rather than 10, creative, quick on their feet. Now they've gotten bigger and slower, Hyundai & KIA are the new kids.

The 1st gen Volt is the finest hybrid ever made by any company, bar none. No one would go wrong to buy a 1st gen Volt.

So...you take an expensive to build car, price it at a loss then sell it to affluent, luxury minded buyers. Sound strategy.
