Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible Spied Ready To Go Topless

This vehicle would combine the ZR1's impressive performance with the ability to open the roof. It sounds like a great mix.

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 could be the ultimate evolution of America’s iconic front-engine sports car, and a new batch of spy photos from General Motors' Milford Proving Grounds reveal that Chevy is building a droptop version of the model. The lack of a roof should make the V8 sound even better, too.

The photos reveal that the convertible ZR1 has essentially the same body as spy pics of the coupe, except for adjustments to the roofline for fitting the convertible top. This one wears the smaller rear wing from some ZR1 test mules. The massive, fixed piece on other models would probably look cartoonishly large on the droptop.
Camouflage hides the hood, but the power bulge from the standard ZR1 still appears to be present. Reports suggest the new Corvette variant might have GM’s new 6.2-liter LT5 V8 with dual overhead camshafts. The mill reportedly makes somewhere around 700 horsepower (521 kilowatts). The output would route to the rear either through a seven-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

GM is in it to bring the consumers what they want...

I sure wish that stupid rear wing was an option..

I would never ....ever own a car with a stupid rear wing on it...

That's asking to get your car keyed .....when parked in public...

GM needs to work on underbody aero on the next generation of corvettes...

I don't want to see those big rear wings as styling statements...

I dig bold and brash styling but those rear wings are ridiculous looking...

The convertible is actually a little better than the coupe (with the wing)

Probably because the convertible does not have the rear fender top scoops...so it's a little smoother in the styling department...

Cause I know every time I see a Viper ACR, I say "I should key that thing."

It's not a park bench some teenager installed on his mom's Honda Civic. It's there to prevent you from dying at high speeds.

Call me vain, but I would rather die at a high speed than have an ugly spoiler on my car.

For all we know, it very well could be optional like the Z07 package, but something is telling me no (physics, traction).

Re: Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible Spied Ready To Go Topless

I love the looks of the convertible with the top up. Too bad GM will never do a fixed roof coupe again, like they did on the C5 Z06. The spoiler - I could do without.

I dig the rims, too, stared at them for a bit, then I saw the rest of the picture.

What's up with all the mules having gray (primer?) doors?

The vert hinge system probably steals the width necessary for the upper rear vents, I wonder how much difference not having the vents makes?

Count me as #3, the Spoiler has to go.

I have never been a Convertible guy. It screws up the roofline.

There was speculation the doors are carbon fiber or something.

Park in New York City or in the tri state area and there are pieces of crap .smart @lecs who think their crap doesn't stink and they are jealous of any ones possessions that are left unprotected and alone.

Too loud a statement with racers wings are a calling for dic heads to expose their anger in life to key..a car with those huge wings....(by kids with hondas with wings etc who are jealous)

I wouldn't daily drive a car with airplane wings on them..

And a lot of guys wouldn't either...

I'm sure the wing is great in the track...but verts don't often get past safety protocols to run on a road course anyway..

Perhaps they should make it removable so that one can attach it for track days?

    I'm sure it's detachable, I know it's adjustable.

There are several pics and vids of mules with only the base brackets showing.

Holy crap so much whining going on about a car that will be $100k plus and will not be a daily driver at all. You drive it to have fun and hear that beautiful exhaust note.

If you dont like the wing, take it off. You can afford to have the holes fixed you complainers. LOL

Active aero is the solution to keep the spoiler tucked away until necessary but it looks like we'll have to wait for the C8.

Well, you one of the 50% that doesn't like the spoiler, and the other 50% Love it, but everyone has personal preferences and that's OK.
